Post Ahh... The self-satisfaction of a do-it yourself mod...Clear TA taillights

I could'nt find anyone who made clear lights for my TA, so while I was doing my search I found "97FormulaWS-6"'s post on how to do-it your self clear lights(Thanks a million, It was realy helpful)My tail lights were leaking severly so I figured If I'm gonna tear 'em apart to reseal them might as well try to make them clear! WOW!... really easy, Took me an hour at the most! (Had to dry out the water with a hair dryer) They look awesome. I did do one thing different though, I went to Autozone and bought LED lights. They were $14.95 for 2 not too bad. The reason I did this is I did not like to see the red bulb inside the clear light. Now you look inside mine everything is clear (including the bulb) until the brakes or turn signals are on. Then a super bright red! I just wanted to post this, This is my FIRST do-it yourself type mod, and it feels great to look at it and say He** Yea I did that!!!
More mods to come!!

Cool, I'm glad you liked them, and you're welcome for the instructions.

Guys,

I've got pics in the sig.

The LED bulbs are really nice, but I've heard of problems with the turn signals from them. I'm currently building a set of them myself. I've got to make the housings then I'm done, I've got all the circuit boards made and wired/tested. You think those are bright... I found the Brightest/widest LEDs that I could... These you look in to, and you're squinting.. I've got 2 circuits, a 6 for parking, and a 12 for Brake/turn, so 18 LEDs... x 6 bulbs... 108 of these LEDs...

I really need to get these done...

Mike

Unfortunately WS6 you are right! When I did the mod I checked my "Blinkers" with my hazards, so I could see if they all were blinking. No problem! After I was done checked with turn signal nothing! Talked to a few people today and last night they tell me LED's don't draw enough current. I'll have a solution by the end of the weekend! For everyone else it's like Brent said,as soon as I get by his house(probably Tonight or tommorrow)we'll get some pics for y'all. I'll update as soon as I know something or when I get the pics. Pretty new to this so Brent is a lot better at posting pics.

I have a fix...

Go to Pep-boys and search in the flashers section... they make HD ones for trucks and such that tow trailors... they are electronic ones that are independent of load, thus not thermal trigger ones like most are. They're designed to flash as a constant rate no matter what load is on the circuit.

Thats kinda strange, since I bought an electronic flasher so i could use LED's as turn signals, and it didn't work for me. In fact, it blows fuses which is even worse, since I've used like 6 fuses on it, and nothing I've tried has worked yet! Anybody have any other input?

Once again WS-6 you are right. But this time I was a step ahead of you!! I put the flasher in on Fri. With no luck!!?? So I went to Brent's today and what do you know... I'm a DUMB A$$!! I put my new flasher in the Hazzards flasher spot!! GM hid the turn signal flasher from me. Brent showed me where the real flasher is, and what do you know turnsignals!!! We got some pics also! we'll probably post them tommorrow. We worked till dark on something! I don't want to let the cat out of the bag but all I can say is WOW!!!!!! Keep watching for Brent's update. hehehe

Cool

Hey guys, I finally got the pics from Brent. He put them on his site for me. Here you go. There is still some condensation between the clear area and the black "webbing" but it looks a lot better than it did before. We also changed the outer socket to accept the larger and dual filament 1157 bulb. I wanted a standard look between all three bulbs plus, now I'm ready for the sequential tail lights just like what were on my car before I bought it from Brent and he stole them back off the car for his own!!! Here are the pictures, let me know what you think.

97FormulaWS-6 I found your post which linked to another post on how to do it, but it doesn't work anymore. Does anyone have that link or can you repost the instructions please?

Thumbs up

Looks cool. Definitely different!! Will look better once the condensation is gone. Personally though I still prefer the stock look with a silver bird & "Trans Am" lettering.

Wink

I hope the condensation dries out soon, I tried to dry it with the hair dryer the best I could. If not I'll just have to get the new Honeycomb style and try it again! I really like red bird and "TRANS AM" but I must admit I was torn between red and silver. Silver would match my wheels and interior better, But I can always change them. They are just overlays! Thanks for the comments! Just got home from work and found Fed Ex delivered my K&N CAI so why the h*ll am I here typing, I'm gonna go put it on!!!! I'll post about it later!
