88 Camaro F-Body 305 ideas for more power!
i have a 88 camaro 305 f-body i dont kno exactly how much horsepower they make stock does anyone know? i also would like to know if there are any tricks of the trade to gettin more power out of the 305 or easy upgrades to get minimal numbers of hp gain. thanks alot

IMO those engines are junk for making hp, but they run forever My advice would be to build up and LT1 engine to stick in there, My buddy has an 88 I-Roc with a stock LT1 other than LT's and exhaust and he runs 13.1's. While you are building up the LT1 (when you're almost done with it of course) I would stick a 150-200 shot of nitrous on it and see what it does.

You can get your 305 into the mid - low 14's with most of the common bolt ons.
Exhast, intake - hell, if you were to put a cam kit into it, you could mabye even see high 13's.
305's may not be the best engine in the world but as stated above, they are tough as hell.
On a side note - if you have the money for all those mods - you are likely not far from an engine swap.

Why did you post this in the "Appearance" forum? Try 3rd gen tech.
First of all, do you have an LO3 (TBI) motor, or a TPI motor? Find that out. Barring some high-dollar buildups, the LO3 is a complete turd unless you convert to TPI. Getting it into the 300 hp range (with TBI) requires a tremendous effort that makes an engine swap more economical.
Basic bolt-ons that I would look into (for a TPI motor):
--Cold air intake (CAI)
--Ported intake runners, or an aftermarket ram intake like the TPIs or Holley Stealth Ram
--Headers
--Catback exhaust
--Ignition system, etc etc.
--CSI electric water pump
One thing you might be able to consider... if you have a 305 TPI motor and just can't bear the idea of switching, you might want to look into 18 degree heads. Since you've got a real block that can take SBC heads without machining (unlike LT1 guys) you could run a monster cam and put down some serious power. But again, not many people are going to do that on a 305.
One more suggestion: DON'T FORGET THE SUSPENSION AND CHASSIS. Throw on a set of new shocks and swaybars, maybe subframe connectors to stiffen up the car and help it handle.
Good luck
