Take a look at this main bearing... after leaking head gasket
Brand new motor. Cometic gaskets leaked coolant into the crank case. Car ran for 10 minutes tops at low RPM. Was not driven. i pulled the motor back out to redo the head gaskets and check out the bearings. I pulled the first main bearing cap and this is what it looks like. Tell me what you think about the discoloration, is this normal? i don't know if you can see it but there is a very small grove in the bearing as well. Can barely feel it. I will check the crank out tomorrow. Can probly be worked out with a little scotch bright, its minuet. I'm more worryed about the discoloration.

The link works for me. Is that a localized heat mark on the bearing? if so , that doesnt look good at all, but I've seen some funny colors on the bearing coating before but if you can feel that its no good and scotchbrite isnt the answer.

That looks like a very normal H-series bearing. If there is a small dirt line that is sorta normal but not desirable of course. But that is a good looking bearing.
Did you put the bottom end together?

No I did not. I'm not too concerned with the small dirt line, might have happened when i wiped the oil off with a rag. My fingernail leaves a noticable mark.. i think it is just the coating.
When you say normal looking h-series bearing... Do you mean they come out of the package this way? 0 miles on the motor

I have never seen one with that much of a defined line between the color variation, and usually the "P" bearings are the light grey, and the "H" are the darker color with discolorations throughout. I have however seen that kind of look on a "P" bearing that had a piece of crud behind it - that is why I asked what bearing type.

Also the ACL H-series bearings will look like that sometimes.
