SB2.2 Heads on a LT4?

I just got some SB2.2 heads from a connection @ a machine shop in los angeles, for about $850 (someone requested work on then and didnt pay/pick up for abt 1 year) - they were x-rayed and fully tested

the flowbench peak flow was 382 intake / 275 exhaust (compated to my 304 intake / 235 exhaust on the LT4 heads)

was told these will bolt up to a gen 1 sb chevy - just need matched intake and compatable headers...

any ideas how to convert standard cooling to reverse cooling heads? (gen 1 to lt1/4) ? how much would it cost, is it worth it? or should i build a gen 1 carb'ed 383?
would there be any gain below 6800 rpm w/ heads that flow this much?

Look up N20Dave (I think that's his screen name) - he's done it with incredible results. Not a cheap proposition either.

Having the heads is only the beginning of the battle. It is an expensive deal, but worth the results. At least you got the heads cheap. That will help ease the pain on your checking account as you go through this.

so what i am hearing - is do it? or put a gen I block in another non SLP LT4 SS?
heads been sitting on a shelf at a machine shop for about 9 months, i got the original invoice, work order, and flow data for the work done, the shipping/receiving guy hooked me up...

original estimate for work done was 500/head (port, polish, flowbench, cc each chamber)
the the estimate was revised to include
new spings, and 2 rocker arms needed to be replaced, then the notes say the customer approved this, as well as a 3 angle valve job - heads didnt need resurface.

What you're hearing is do the research on what it's going to cost to do the buildup. Once you have the figures in hand, make the decision. There's no denying it'll make power, but the support components are what's going to cost you the money.

Custom machine work on the heads; custom intake, and custom headers... 3 very large $$ items.

Not to mention the amount of work just to make some of those items fit in the car. I never thought I'd help relocate a car's floor to make room for headers

You will need

the heads converted to reverse gen II cooling $500

Headers BUILT $1500

Pistons $600

Shaft rockers $1000

Intake $400

Port intake $200

Cam $400

Lifters $450

Throttlebody/elbow setup $600

Aftermarket engine management to take advantage of ALL the money you just spent to take the engine to 7000+ rpm $2000

BUT it you want to make 700+ hp on pumpfuel, you got the heads to do it with.

Even with the Gen. 1 block you will still need pistons built, off set lifters, cam built and headers built. Also different head studs.
