Piston/wall clearance for boost?

Okay I am just getting my 383 freshened up and I had some scratches in cylinder 1, So my engine builder said he was gonna hone it another .001 and see how it looks.

Now it is already .007 over for my JE pistons. (170817)

Would I be best off just going to some 4.040 and have it re-bored for those?

The motor will see upwards to 20psi and should ballpark around the 800rwhp mark.

I would just hate to have to get new pistons bc I love the JE's I have.

If I go with replacements it will probably be the Diamond 11418's bc the price is decent on them. only thing is it will put me in the 8.5:1 territory which I dont wanna drop too much.

well doesnt matter I need to buy new pistons bc there is too much cleaance after it was honed.

Time to sell my JE's and get some 4.040 Diamonds I guess.

I am interested in some responces to this as well, i am in a similar situation, after honing my skirt clearance will be .007 and i can't decide to go that high or sell the pistons i have and get some custom 4.035's.

PS mine will also be a high boost application
and i talked to JE and they reccomment from .005 to .009 (on the lower side for EFI setups)

I am curious what pistons you are using that JE actually recommends that kind of clearance on...how much boost? What block? Filled?

Well i lost the darn part number, but they are the better composition on the two blower pistons that they make for a SBC (3.75" stroke 5.7" rod 4.030 bore). Those were the numbers he gave me for a turbo setup, the lower end being street EFI and the upper end being all track use carb.
