This forum has basically outlived it's usefulness. Most of what is being posted here doesn't belong here. We're tired of moving these posts to the correct forum. From this point forward posts that do not belong here will simply be locked.

Seems like every once in a while, the Advanced Tech board becomes the "catch-all" for people who don't want to or don't know they are supposed to post "Generation specific" topics on the appropriate board.

Advanced Tech is for questions that are of an ADVANCED nature - no exceptions. If you have a question about tuning, dont post it here - post it in the Computer/Tuning forum. If you have questions on which U-joint to use, post in the Drivetrain forum. If you want to know the best setup for a heads and cam LS1 or LT1, put it in the appropriate "Engine Tech" forum. Basically, use common sense and ask yourself: "does this belong in the Advanced Tech forum and not in LT1/LT4 Engine Tech or LS1/LS6/LS2/.... Engine Tech?"

There seems to be some confusion and disagreement over the topic of "strokers", for example. The key here is:

Stroker motors - high end discussion only

That means you come here AFTER you have exhausted the resources at the engine specific forums. If you have questions like:

-what is a stroker
-where do I buy a stroker kit
-what rods do I need
-what cam do I need

.... that is, basic type of info. There are numerous people on LT1/LT4 Engine Tech, LS1/LS6/LS2..... Engine Tech, who can help you. Most of the people here on Advanced Tech who own LT1's will also respond to posts on LT1 Tech. You will actually have a much larger source of "basic" information on those boards, than you will have here.

Building a 454ci SBC?... maybe need rods for a 1,000+HP twin turbo 383?.... have a burning desire to run over 8,000rpm? - bring it to Advanced Tech.

thanks for your cooperation.

And, to save you the trouble of going to the "Announcement" thread, here's a copy of what JasonD wrote:

It seems there is some confusion about what this forum is for. Maybe this announcement will clear things up a bit.

Let's start with the forum description...

quote:
Advanced tech discussion for all years. Stroker motors, Driveline rebuilds, etc... HIGH-END DISCUSSION ONLY

This should clearly define that it is not for picking best cat-back or cold air intake. It also defines that it is for when you are building a stroker motor, completely rebuilding the transmission or driveline. We are limited on how much we can put in the forum description, so we were hoping that people would understand what this forum is for...

BIG engines, trans-brakes, volumetric efficiency, stroker cranks/rods/etc... HIGH-END DISCUSSION ONLY.

Now, I am not picking on anyone, but this forum is NOT for finding the best muffler shop in Oklahoma, what springs to use on a stock engine, why your "check engine" light is on, asking if you can beat a Corvette or ANYTHING like that. Again, HIGH-END DISCUSSION ONLY.

And the worst part about some posts is that some people KNOW that it doesn't belong here, and they even say that they know it doesn't belong here, but they post it here anyway. Where is the logic in that? If you know it belongs in LT1 tech or LS1 tech, then post it there because if you post it here, it WILL be moved anyway. That is what the moderators job is all about and you are just making it harder for them.

Speaking of which, everyone needs to drop the crying about "elitist attitude". That is just a clever way of whining because some questions just don't belong here. Sorry, but if your questions doesn't fit here, it's nothing personal. We created this forums SPECIFICALLY for ADVANCED questions. This is not just another tech forum to go to if you don't get an answer in another forum. If it was posted in another forum once, it certainly doesn't belong here. Say someone is building a 383 in their garage and they get stuck. The last thing they want to see is this forum full of posts about information they can't use.

You don't go to the 3rd Gen section asking tech questions about your LS1 do you? No, you don't. If you did, you will be told to go to the PROPER forum. This forum is no different in situation. It is never a question of a post being "good enough" to be here. It is a question of where it PROPERLY fits. If you really can't tell where a post goes, you probably should stay away from the garage.

So again, I am not picking on anyone, but please stop this "elitist" junk. You know what they say about if you can't run with the "big dogs"...

All this has been posted MANY times in the past.

If this forum isn't utilized the way it was intended and defined, this forum is not worth having. So, to all you "little dogs" out there, you will probably want this forum to be available for when you are "big dogs".

One last thing...Kudos to the moderators here. We didn't know their job would be this tough. They are trying their best. Remember, it is NOT personal if they move your post. Just don't go out of your way to make their job harder.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation
