23* head conversion

Can a standard 23* cylinder head be modified to work on the reverse flow LT1 block ? I have both a tig welder and milling machine avail.

yes, you'll really need to take a good look at the cooling passages on the deck of the head and compare to lt heads and modify it there as well as welding up the water crossover passages unless your intake and gasket will seal it.

Don't forget about drilling a tapping for the steam pipe in the back. Gotta ask why, you would do this for 23* heads? There's plenty of good LT1 head out there.

There are a TON of 23 degree heads that are miles above any available lt head. I can see the allure.

My engine builder also feels there would be more options avail. in using a 23* head. Thanks for your input, we had looked at the heads side by side and saw the differences , just wanted to be sure before any purchases are made.

I thought 23º was the standard angle for LTx heads (and all SBC heads that preceded it). Some quick Googling confirms that. There are aftermarket LTx heads in both 21º and 18º, and LS engines have 15º heads.

EDIT: wait, are we talking about using non-reverse-flow SBC heads? That would make more sense. I guess I was thrown off because you mentioned the angle...

There are several heads like the GB2300 that could do big things for an ltx.

You want something like this?

Hardly, ready to bolt on, 23* heads!!!!!

Special components required for the GB 2000 series and DR heads are injectors or modified intake manifold, sheet metal valve covers, and a shaft rocker system.
