tpi mystery canted valve heads?

ive got a pair of heads on a tpi that i acquired a couple of years back and would like to rebuild the tpi before i put it in my hopefully new to me iroc z but i have no idea where the heads came from and was hoping to get some info in here that would help. the only casting numbers i found on the right side head was "sn 13357-2" and inside the valve cover i found a series of numbers that i hope can help. a circle with an A inside of it, a 1 under that, and 2635 undern that.

Re: tpi mystery canted valve heads?

for some reason i cant add pics. but the heads are aluminum with canted valves like the 454 and canted spark plugs like the lt-1. they have no markings front or back to let me know where they came from and they have a center bolt pattern for the center bolt valve covers. and i dont know if it matters but, it has a set of roller rockers with hydrolic lifters and a roller cam a presume.

I would go to Thirdgen.org for help with this one.

Re: tpi mystery canted valve heads?

I know Trickflow made a FEW "twisted wedge" LT1 heads, seems reasonable if they bothered for the LT1 they would have made some Gen 1 ones first.

I have no specific knowledge but maybe this gets you somewhere to start looking.

TrickFlow made tons of the Twisted Wedge "canted valve" heads for the SBC. They were really popular back in the late 90s/early 00s, especially with the TPI crowd. That's most likely what they are. The TF casting numbers usually began with SN.

To the OP: are the valve guides shot? Then they're most likely the TF heads! Could you post a picture of the heads? Particularly the valve layout and the exhaust flange...

To post an image, it first has to be uploaded someplace online so you can get a web link to it. You can use Photobucket or any other web image site, your album here, or upload as a file. Copy that link, hit the yellow square above your reply (go advanced if necessary) and paste the link in the popup. More info here: CamaroZ28.Com Message Board - FAQ: Reading and Posting Messages

That's because TrickFlow stopped making those heads a LONG time ago.

The pic in your garage? Here it is...

I see 3 things:

1. What appears to be the TrickFlow Twisted Wedge heads, the first/original design (referred to as G1).
2. Incorrect rockers.
3. Sludge!

Chances are if it's got a TPI intake, they're TF heads. Canted valve heads are usually high dollar max effort pieces with huge intake ports that won't line up with a TPI base. They're not true canted valve heads.

Re: tpi mystery canted valve heads?

Yeah I was very disappointed when I saw all of the sludge build up. I'll check with trick flow to see what the recommended parts were to put them on correctly and to see if it would even be worth rebuilding with these heads. Thanks for the input.

Oh and thanks JP for the advise on pics. I think I'll start a photo bucket account if I don't already have one

Yup. Those are the TF Twisted Wedge heads, 100% sure.
