rear end fluid change

so i have 800 miles on my new rear end. they recommend changing the fluid after 500 miles on the new rear cause they have lots of crap on the new gears and posi itself,so i was a little late, but when i did drop it the fluid was milky like dingy black and on my magnetic drain plug was quite a bit of metal shavings, now im thinking this is just because they where brand spanking new and went thru there break in period,, hope my theory is right, what do u think, possibily this is why they recommend changing the fluid after 500 miles anyway.

I would change the fluid and see what it looks like 500 miles later. This is probably normal because the gears need to get all the burrs and rough spots rubbed out.
