Q-jet or Holley??

I just rebuilt my 305 and wondering if I should use my Holley or Q-jet. The holley was rebuilt last summer and never ran and it`s a 600cfm single feed/pump with vac. secondarys.

Modds on the 305 are

272 H10 crane cam .454"/ 272 dur.
Edelbrock performer EGR intake
1.94" 305 heads with bowl job
headers.

If I use the Holley I also have a 1" spacer for it.

Is it a spacer or an adapter to fit a Holley on the factory Qjet manifold? Don't use the Holley with an adapter. It will kill flow. If it's a spacer, whether it hurts or helps depends on the combination.

Either of those carbs would work fine with your engine if properly tuned. I prefer Holleys. They are easier to tune and the inlet needles pop right out the top for cleaning. HP Books publishes books for both Holleys and Qjets. A wise investment if you really want to know these carbs.

it`s a spacer for sure I was planing on putting the Holley with the 1" spacer on and make a custom 3" cowl hood outta a V6 hood

Personnaly I hate Q-jets and love holleys but I`ve never ran a Holley before. I`ve never really had good luck with the Q-jets.

what makes you hate the Q-Jet? just currious because i have one on my engine, what did it do wrong?

how do you love hollys but have never ran one before?

i think that the holley would be easier to tune then the Q jet but in either case if you were inclined enough to do that rebuild then you would probably be fine either way, and i dont think the carburator is going to be the make or break your engine factor in this particular case with the 305

on a side note my friend is looking for a 600 cfm carb for his 302 stang im suposed to help him with so if you have an extra carb lying around and wanna get rid of it let me know i might have a buyer for ya, or for a trade (hes got a 750 holley right now )

Where do ya live?

Info on that 750 please. is it a 4150???

All my Q`s run so damn rich I lean them out then a week later back to rich as hell. then my bro-in-law had his blow a gasket and spray gas all over and his intake was a lake.

I like holley`s because there the racers choice of carb they make more power then the others they look better you can tune them better there ALOT easyer to work on and well alot of people say there the best

If you guys did a decent rebuild of your QJets and followed the tuning article on the Tech Articles at www.thirdgen.org you would be experiencing the excellent performance characteristics that are typical of the QJet.

Just filled my tank up after running around for a weelk in Calgary and got 22.05 mpg (American gallons)! That's around town with a 300 hp built 305. And when I step on it the secondaries come on like gangbusters--no bog whatsoever--but smooth as silk. I don't think there is a better carb to be had for mileage and performance.

Talk to Damon about getting your QJets in shape. You won't regret it
