Price Estimate for 5 speed swap

this winter i want to do a 5 speed swap in my camaro, right now i have an auto 700r4 with a shiftkit, but i need to learn more about it before i do it...for one, how much would the entire swap cost? and how much power can a T-5 hold? I have a corvette motor puttin out approximately 275 right now, and i might get a stealth ram intake this winter, so that might put me over 300 with new headers and exhaust system, i just want to make sure the tranny won't blow out on me right away...is there any way you can beef up a manual tranny, something like what a shift kit does in an automatic??? i would love to do a T56 swap, but i'n not rich,,,so any info on this 5 speed swap would be greatly appreciated..

I spent exactly $1000.XX on my T56 swap in my old '92.

Stock T5's can hold MAYBE 300HP. That's a good shape World Class version. Forget about torque though. Chances are (not def but probably) you'll blow a T5 with a 275-300HP motor fairly quickly if you do a lot of launching/racing. Good luck and consider a T56 swap. Well worth it, check my page.

I got a t5 and everything to put it in for $300, but that was after ALOT of searching. I still should get a few new parts before putting it in, but the clutch is so close to new I could use it (but i'm not). I figure $500-$800 by the time i'm done. Its better to expect it to be more than it actually is.

i believe a stock T5 is rated at 330 ft/lbs, a WC T5 is even more than that(guesstimating about 380?). those ratings are somewhat underrated too, with a T5 its more or less just random luck, sometimes a 190 hp stock 350 will ruin it within a few thousand miles if its abused or sometimes the T5 can hold out to a 500 hp motor. its partially how you drive it and partially luck on how good ur T5 actually is. if i was you i would swap it and not think twice, more than likely... you'll be fine and ur T5 will last you. my best friend has a stock T5 in his mustang(not much different than a T5 in a camaro) and he had the motor sent out to be hand built and he's got a supercharger puttin out 11 lbs of boost. his car dynoed at 590 hp and he has the stock T5 that he abuses the hell out of, always slammin gears and pealin out through the first 3 easy... its a good transmission when it wants to be so don't worry about it.

i was thinking about this same conversion except mine is a 87' with a 350c.i. and the700r4 tranny. i was just wondering where you found your transmission and other parts. was it ebay or some other place i was quoted at 1200 and 1400 for a rebuild.]

and yes i was also thinking about the t56 swap but it out of my budget considering the tranny alone will be 900 w/ shipping and i have to get my car back on the road soon. so i can't wait. i have no other car to drive.
