polishing question?

picked up a becool direct fit but it isn't polished. it is all aluminum and looks as if it would be rather easy to do a wetsand polish job with a fine grit.

anyone have suggestions? i would have bought the polished unit but at $400 more it didn't seem logical.

i used a similar process on my ac condenser and lines that were visible...as well as most things that looked like they were copper coated. just wetsanded with a few stages of paper and they turned out chrome....worked great, just curious if it would do the same for the radiator?

Re: polishing question?

Use a buffing wheel and start with White diamond compound ,and then Red rouge(sp?)

Re: polishing question?

Try Home Depot that is where I get it. They should have it in the tool area with the wheels. You can get a arbor that will fit a drillmotor if you don't have a stationary buffer, and you can get in tight areas with a dremal. Just don't try and go to fast or you will gum up the wheel an it will take longer, plus if you plan on doing more polishing (which you will)get three wheels one for each compound and one for just buffing. When you get it to the point you like it,finish with cornstarchand buff.

Re: polishing question?

Uhhggg. I hate polishing. It looks good but I hate the maintenance. Corrodes too easily. At least it will look good until it rains

Re: polishing question?

clear coat isn't an option....it fades and dulls the finish.

Good point Jeff! I cleared a brand new Victor Water pump before install and it definately took away that "new aluminum" look but I figured it would be easier to clean in the long run. Engine sprays oil onto said surface and baked oil into clear coat.. Yeah I'll be bead blasting it to get rid of the yellow candy look it has now...
