Performance differences from 5.0 and 5.7L

I am about to get another 2nd or 3rd gen and msnauto.com said that there are huge performance differneces based on whether it was carb or TBI or TPI, etc. So my question is what are the pros and cons of each system, and what performance in hp should I be expecting from each? Thanks!!!

Well if you get teh right TPI 305 there isnt a huge difference between it and the L98. However there is a big difference in potential.

The big advantedges of the Lg4 (carb) and TBi cars is just that those bastards will run forever if you half *** take care of them.

MSNauto.com has power of a 5.0L 170hp and a TPI 5.0L as 225 or something like that. Does that make sense?

quit looking it up in msn auto....go over to thirdgen.org and read up the history in their faq sections. you'll find out all available options and the differences.

tpi is generally better unless your not worried about power and the whole efi thing then go carb.

I believe the general numbers for teh TPI cars is 195 for the 305 auto 220 for the 305 5-speed and 245/345 for the L98

if you get a third gen try to find a 91 or 92 z28. the 350 had 245 hp and the 305 5speed had 205hp or 230hp.you would get the 230hp 305 if it has the optional g92 performance rear.if the rear has 3.08 like my 91 5speed you would get the 205hp motor.the best my car ran(a couple of times) was a 14.6@97mph,horrible 60' times. all the car has was a 3" cat back w/MSD 6AL,coil and 8.5 wires and home made cold air kit.
