My temp gauge kinda does this. It goes up to like 240, but I know it aint that hot, so I flick the gauge, and it drops down to like 220. lol.

My temp gauge was stuck at zero one day driving home. When I throttled up hard one time, the needle started to shake but was still on zero. So I floored it for a few seconds and the needle shook again and popped up to about 170*. That's the fun way to fix it!!!! Although I now wonder on the accuracy of my gauge b/c in a traffic jam last week it was on about 170*. In traffic it should be showing around 200.

Next time try a hammer ,that's the best way. Just smack it once maybe twice right in the middle.
