next performance step, 350 tpi

I have a 1991 camaro z28 5.7 I'v done almost everything to the car outside the inside of the motor. now i want a big step up. im thinking a cam and lifter kit.
my mods-
underdrive pullies
hooker headers with offroad y pipe
true ram air with K&Ns
throttle body
upgraded injectors 27lbs
adj fuel pressure reg
complete MSD ignition system
jet stage 2 chip
and other small bolt ons

i have all factory internals and i want to keep the tpi system, i'll get new runners and base at some point but for now i want a big jump in power. i want to put in a cam and lifter pack but i dont have any clue where to start about which cam to buy. im looking for a nice choppy idle, but overall more power than anything. does anyone have eny ideas?

custom cam is the way to go for any engine and there not that much more $$$ then a p.o.s over the shelf cam. but i would definitly get better heads also too take advantage of the cam. i will never go with an o.t.s cam again.

i agree with the heads totally. Linginfelter said, you can have a killer cam and crappy heads and make crappy HP, you can have a crappy cam and killer heads and make killer HP.

do you have someone that can tune your car in your area once you make all these upgrades? if not your best choice at the moment is a 08-300-8 comp cam. 206/210 450/480 112. you "may" be able to get away with a 08-302-8 480/480 210/220 112 and not have to tune but thats a maybe.

If you're looking for a big jump in power, you cannot keep the TPI.

I love the holley intake for the tpi. The above cams are good choices but the heads are the choke on that one. A big jump would be keep everything and get a supercharger. Just saying

yeah my friend owns dynotune motorsports and its like 20 minutes from my house. but the tpi computer cant be dyno tuned unless you have a hardrive change. i want to keep it original bc it has only 50k miles on it and its showroom cond, thats one reason im keeping the tpi set up.
i just figured a cam swap would be the best noticable increase.

the car is air/fuel tuned from the dyno, the fuel pressure reg helped with that one. lol but thats basicly as far as i can go by dyno tuning it, isnt it?

if your friend knows anything about tuning and knows his way around early OBD1 he can tune ya up. you will need a piggyback and a chip, having 2 is best which can be had from Craig Moates. Craig can answer alot of your tuning ques or help get your tuning guy in the right direction.

Camshaft should be matched to the heads and rpm range you're looking for. Unfortunately matching a cam to stock heads sucks. Limited by the valve springs also..

Save up all at once and do Intake, heads, Cam all properly matched for big power.

All cars should start with this: M/T Drag Radials, 2800-3000 rpm torque converter, 100 shot of nitrous.. Those 3 mods alone make a TPI car FUN. Usually fun enough to lift a front tire and beat a LOT of cars next to you. While you're at it, refresh the trans with fluid/filter.. Possibly a TransGo stage 2 shift kit, maybe a trans cooler too.

What rear end ratio do you have. A change won't make any more power but it will feel like it has.

i changed the fluid and filter a couple months ago. i think ill look more into a 100 shot of nitrous, i just dont know how well the internals are going to hold up.

another ques, how much street driving will you do with this car? making it too much of a bear will be a merf in traffic so think about driveability in this build. i would say a head with anything larger than a 180-190 head runner will start getting into that "bear" area.
