Need a new L98 long block...
My '92 L98 has developed a miss above idle. The compression on number 8 dropped to about 70lbs. I have no reason to suspect a cylinder head leak, broken piston or rings. It appears I lost a lobe on the cam... unless you have some other ideas.
What rebuilder/remanufacturer offers a VIN 8 replacement with comparable compression and roller cam specs with all the sensor provisions? I'd even consider something with more power as long as it works with my HyperChip. I don't have time (or money) to reprogram my ECM. What about warranties, core charges, shipping, etc. I figure a long block should be far less than the cost of machine work and new pistons, cam, etc. Thanks!

If you think it's the cam. why not just change it?
If you don't have the money just get a replacement LB. Chevy and many others offer long blocks in many HP ratings, and specs. Just get one that has specs. close to yours.

Just an example.

I'd look for a L31 long block (Vortec 350 truck motor), but you would have to go and get a vortec base manifold. The heads flow much better and they stopped making this motor in 2002 or so. The 'newest' L98 will be almost 20 years old.
