Need help with new motor (Dist. and wiring related)

OKay i have just bought another 3rd gen camaro, and already have my motor in there. It is a '90 L03 TBI car.

I got a full motor w/carb in there, But I think to wire it up. I'm going to have to get a different distibutor. Right now I have a Early 80's H.E.I. Coil in cap model. With one 3 wire connecter with a Black, Brown, And Pink with that I think comes from the coil and goes to the cap, and another (4) wire connector with a Black w/ red stripe wire, orange w/ black stripe wire, a pink w/ white stripe wire, and a white creme color wire. This is a computer controled distubutor correct? I can't use this can I?

Also if I have to buy a non-computer controled dist., how do I wire it with the tbi harness? I read it on the tech section of thirdgen.org ,but do not really get it.

Thanks for any and all help guys.

The distributor you described is the one used in the '90 RS, electronic(computer controlled)advance. The trouble is that w/o a TPS(Throttle Position Sensor), the computer has NO idea of how much advance to add, especially under a load.
My advice would be to either get a H.O. Throttle Body and reinstall the TBI intake, distributor, and Throttle Body....or get a late '70's "Coil-In-Cap" with Vacuum Advance distributor, and then wire a 12 gage wire to a 12 volt(keyed, or when key is on only..) source, to the "Bat" terminal of the HEI distributor.(..like cooling Fan Relay maybe..verify with a volt meter.)

I think i've got a TPS sensor on one of my q-jets....but still dont have a carb computer.

Um, would you go with a aftermarket one, or just get one at the bone yard man?

Thanks again

There's nothing wrong with a salvage distributor, just remove the cap and rotor button BEFORE buying, and look for rusty springs and weights...avoid rusted HEI's...
Also if you buy "salvage", still install a "new" vacuum advance onto it.
That's what I would do, at least until I worked out all of the "bugs"..

alright, thanks.

But there still is no way to run this dist, just to make sure the motor checks out?
