LT1 stock specs
how many HP's and Torq do stock LT1's put out? does it vary from trans am, camaro, to corvette?? also, does the LS1 engine put out 305 at the crank or to the wheels? any stock specs on Ls1's from car to car would help too...thanks..

Re: LT1 stock specs
I can answer that:
275 hp@5200RPM, 325lb-ft@2400RPM.
or, the SLP engineered SS LT1 block:
305hp@5200RPM, 325lb-ft@2400RPM
all courtesy of the greatest informative american muscle site: musclecarclub.com
EDIT: to add on the other points...Trans Ams and Camaro's started running on the same exact engine specs after the third gens, where the stock 5.7's in the trans am received less airflow...usually about a 10HP difference or so. LS-1's get 305 horsepower, to the crank. The ram air LS-1 supposedly puts out 320 to the crank, but Im betting the ram air isnt that amazing...it hasnt been since 1973 ish.
Corvette engines are usually supposedly more powerful than F-Body engines, stock. the 92 corvette with the LT-1 produces roughly 300HP to the crank, even offers a ZR-1 package that nocks it up to 375HP...when stock f-body LT1's werent sold stock past 305.
plus, generally camaros run off base corvette engines, after corvettes try out the new engine.

You're mixing up your Vette engine families. The ZR1 came with the LT5, a DOHC engine.
Ram Air might not be fantastic, but I'm thinking it doesn't hurt. I was cruising around with the tops off on the SS last night (factory stock) and all I had to do was tap the loud peddle to break the rear end loose. Cool air of Fall =

Re: LT1 stock specs
point taken...and its only gonna get better with colder air coming, although obviously, up north here in jersey, wont be seeing the traction ya want come winter...sobs...ice...
Now, if you were askin me what I'd wanna try to swap into the engine bay of a third gen, i'd say a Chevy 302. rip em off the '69 Z-28's. you'll be pushin 400 horses in no time...although I gotta say, it operates best at a savage RPM rate...(7000!)
but it'd be neat, none the less...if at all possible.

Re: LT1 stock specs
LT1 6 speed is easiest to pop in. Motor mounts are the same as classic sbc, and there are parts available off the shelf for the T56 install. But there are issues, like the reverse cooling adaptions needed. Then there's wiring, computer, sensors, etc.
302 is a good little engine, but it is way short on torque.
Quickest path to 400 crank HP is cubes. I put a smog head/small cam 400 sbc in my 71, and it is quicker than my 98 SS. I know the heads choke off the 400, but there is no arguing with torque. Some good heads, even low buck vortecs, and I know it would gain at least 50hp. Still, the smog head 400 ran a best of 13.7 @ 101 at local 4,000 ft altitude track. With a stock converter on Radial T/A's. About 13 flat @ 107 at sea level. So it's about 300 wheel HP.
The 700 can be upgraded to live behind a strong motor. Check out tranny sites online for details.
Keep in mind that a stock LT1 in your car is only going to run as strong as LT1s do in 4th gens. It will need work to make it to 400. A big cube sbc (400 or 383) would make 400 easier/cheaper. You already have a 350, all you need is a stroker kit, good heads, intake & carb. Judicious shopping can get your 75-100 hp engine upgrade done for under 2k. And you have a fresh bullet, not a used gamble.
Is running high 13's/low 14's worth all the $$$ you will have to invest to make the change to an LT1? Or is low 13's/high 12's better?
Calculate the costs, both $$$ and time/effort, for both options so you can make the choice that's best for you. Maybe 383 6 speed? That would be a fun car.
As for me, I've been thinking of scoring a good used LS1 block to maybe start building me a 383 stroker. My 98 is under 50k and running strong, but enough is never enough....
