Installing headers on a 3rd gen
Im going to get a set up eld. headers for my 92z28. Ive noticed that there isnt alot of room under there to move around. Has anyone installed a set of these before? If so did you have to raise up the engine? What secrets you got for me? thanks

Yes,jacking the motor up is needed...atleast when I did Hedmans back on my 87. Theres an AIR tube that goes around back of the motor and is a royal PITA. Other than that its pretty straight forward. Have plenty of beer or jack danials on hand...and a few friends wouldnt hurt either.

I don't know if there are any "secrets" per se, but I did a few things in an attempt to stave off problems down the line:
* Got a heat shield to go over my starter (had to clearance it to make it fit);
* Bought some plug wire heat shielding for the plug wires;
* Used Stage 8 Locking bolts to attach them to the heads;
* Used a better kind of exhaust gasket (the kind with graphite inserts in an aluminum "frame" - Summit has 'em) to seal them to the heads.
It cost a little extra, but I haven't had any problems since I installed 'em in 2000...

Thanks for all the help guys. Ill be saving up for the headers now. I cant wait. They advertise that it will shave "up to a fulls second off your 0-60 time" anyone else test that theory?

Word of warning here All Edlebrock headers are made for Straight plugs Heads. I found this out from Edlebrock so you might want to go with a diff set of heads as well. or change your plugs around.

installed some hedman shortys tonight. hed-68470s on a 90 camaro. this is how it went. drivers side. removed valve cover. fell into place. passanger. removed dipstick and it fell into place. however this thirdgen has a lt1 in it didnt have to jack the engine/car or remove the bolts from the mount
