How do I make my 1984 Z28 faster?

I have a 1984 Camaro Z28 with a 1995 Silverado 350 / 5.4 L engine. How do I make it go faster? What cams should I buy? Air Intake? Anything to give that extra muscle?

Isn't a 350 a 5.7? Did you put the vortec fuel injection with the motor or did you put on a carb?

It only has one cam.

Provide pictures of this engine in the car.. Pictures will tell us more details than you probably can.

2800 stall torque converter
Sticky Rear drag radial tires from Mickey Thompson
100 shot of nitrous

Thats a great start providing it runs well already.

Re: How do I make my 1984 Z28 faster?

If you have a 1995 engine, it's a one piece rear main eal engine with a hydraulic roller cam. That's good! However we don't know what you have for an induction system, if it's got the old E4ME carburator, the truck TBI system, or something else. You can make it faster by changing out the cam, and mating it to an appropriate intake manifold and induction system, be it a newer carb, or a fuel injection system. The Comp Cams XFI series cams are pretty good. If you back it up with a 2400 - 2800 lockup style torque converter, and a set of cat-back exhaust & headers, you will have something that should yield good torque, drivability, and relative quickness. Certainly it will be fun to drive so long as you don't go too crazy on camshaft selection.

However like Autoroc says, we can't help without a few more specifics, including how much you want to spend, how much work you want to do, and what you want to use it for. Don't say "everthing", because that is very hard to do. Believe me, I tried.
