You need to post this in the correct forum.... right now you're in the "Appearance" forum. I'll move your post to "3rd Gen/L98 Engine Tech". You'll get more info on HP and engine swaps there.
With regard to the limited slip differential ("posi") - have you verified that you have an
open" differential? When you do a "burnout", do the tires leave two black stripes, or one? Have you checked the build code tag to see if it has the code for a limited slip differential?
IF you don't have a posi, you have to swap in a new "carrier" that incorporates a limited slip unit. Alternative is to buy a complete rear axle assembly from a car that does have a limited slip rear.

If your car has low miles I could see spending money on the motor for some more power. Now if your car is higher mileage, I would save my money and get a 350 and put the money in it. How ever I always love original cars with the original size motor in it. Call me crazy but when my 305 needs a rebuild in my firebird I will rebuild or replace with a 305 to keep it orignal. But on the other had it sure seems like alot of people are having alot of fun swapping engines and seeing their hard work pay off.

If and when you swap engines there are alot of people on this site with alot of knowledge that can lend you a hand if you have any questions. Search around here and you can find tons of threads about engine swapping and engine transplanting.

Looks like you have a really nice car to get started with. My 305 firebird is about 40% rusted, and I don't think I can save it, so I'm just going to drive it into the ground. It's my daily driver and the salt on the roads just killed it.

If you ever do put an engine in it sdpc2000.com is a good place. Thats where I got my engine. So many choices. I went with the Vortec TPI engine similar to the ZZ4 GM crate.
But these are a good deal too.
