flat spot

couple of problems....

after my car warms up, my oil pressure gauge dances all over the place...at idle, the oil pressure reads like 15...i'm not a master mechanic, but 15 sounds very low. supposedly the engine has only 28,000 miles on it... if i touch the throttle, the engine chokes (like its going to stall), knocks once, and then revs...this all happens in about a1/2 second...blows no smoke whatsoever...ever. Also, the oil pressure goes from 15 to WAY over the upper marker of 60. . Somebody tell me that this engine isn't toast...then tell me the truth...

You need a mechanical oil sending unit thing to figure out if your pressure is actually going over 60 or if its a faulty guage/sending unit.
My oil pressure reads just over 15 at idle once the car is warm and once it revs up the pressure increasese, but its never been up to 60.
Air or fuel filter?

My stock oil pressure gauge reads totally different numbers than my Autometer gauge. At idle the stock gauge reads 10-15PSI while the autometer always reads 25psi at idle. When the car is warm the needle on the stock gauge does jump around but not on the autometer. The gauge will respond to throttle movements. If you want....replace the sender and as for the choking thing....Id check the ignition timing first. Mine was acting goofy and I checked the timing and it was WAY out. Feels great now. Just my $0.02

So if it's out of time would it make that quick "knock" (i don't know how else to describe it) and then rev up? I've never adjusted the timing before...any tips?

i should probably check the fuel filter, its getting old i think. Where would I find that on a TPI?

Its easy. http://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/te...ngtiming.shtml
Also if your fuel filter is old you might as well change it too...easy and cheap

Hope this helps

Thanks. I'll dig out my dad's timing light and check it in the morning. Once again, the message boards save me!
