Buying 4-bolt main 350 for my 86 Iroc
I have an 86 Iroc with a 305 TPI motor 700r4, and Ive been looking to buy a 350 for it. I found a 350 out of a 91 pickup 4 bolt main TBI. Now my plans are just to use the block, bore it .30 over buy a balanced rotating assembly, new aluminum heads, some shorty headers, cam, etc.....and I wanna take my TPI unit and and swap over to the 350....now I know I'll need a slighty bigger injectors and new e-prom chip and I believe a new fly wheel. Can anybody else think of anything else Id need to swap that motor in. And as for building the motor does anyone know and good combinations of heads/cam I wanna build it to make 350 to 400 horse. Any help would be apprectiated.
Thanks,
Jordan

The pickup motor most likely won't be tapped for a spider retainer which means you won't be able to run a roller cam in it. At least my father's 93 truck wasn't.
A stealth ram and a set of pro topline or dart iron eagle heads with an appropriate cam should have no problem making 350-400 flywheel horse power.

Interesting. I wonder if it has to do with where they were built. Dad's truck is a 350 that wasn't tapped. It has the center posts, but no threads in them, and it's a flat tappet cam.

Chevy did some odd things with the 350's after 87 when they switched to the newer style block. Some had them drilled/tapped and some didn't. All the 350's I own are set up for roller cams. My 89 Suburban has the hydralic roller setup in place, my 91 Suburban also does, the Camaro's 350 does too, but the 89 350 that I bought off of Dave does have them drilled and tapped, but it's using flat tappet lifters. I have seen some post 87' blocks that didn't have the bosses drilled and tapped, don't really know why GM did that.
