Buying a 305
Ok so im new here. I know some about camaros but not a ton. I'm going to look at a camaro tomorrow and I need to know a few things. First off its an 86 305 t-top 76k miles its got a carb and headers. Appears to be in good shape but ill have to see in person. Do you guys think 2600 is too much to pay? Its automatic and I believe its got the 700r4 tranny. is this good? Also is there anything you would look at closely? any problems to find? And if anyone can help me post pics ill get some up later. thanks.

If the body is straight and the paint is in pretty good condition than thats a good deal.
Make sure the seller can verify that its 76k and not 176k.
The 700-R4 is a good trans.
Some spots to look at are:
-door hinges/bushings
-look at the rear 1/4 panel on the pass. side behind rear tire for rust. also look in the spare tire area if you can for rust...sometimes water will get in there and sit.
-rust in the area between the t-tops (take them out to look)
-everything underneath for rust, damage, etc.
Can you post up some pics of it?

sounds like a "fair" deal.
seems to me the biggest factor when buying a 3rd gen is the rust. if its cancer free, go for it. itll make your life that much easier. be sure to either undercoat or douse the entire under carraige with wd40 or some kinda junk to keep the salt and mud and water off, thats what happened to my 92.. rusted from the underside up..
oh and that 305 is a great, reliable, semi fuel efficient, boat anchor. keep it for now and try to pick up or build yourself a stout small block using a 350 as a start. the biggest choke on a 305 is the tiny exhaust manifolds and the lame tbi. seems those are both taken care of already for you. if your looking to get a little more outta the 305 do a set of 3:73's and about a 2800 stall and dont forget about weight reduction. i had a high 14sec 92 rs with a STOCK 305. it can be done easier then you might get told

check the condition of the frame where the steering box mounts.
it has been known to weaken over time and rip the bolts out....some of the later years had the "wonder bar" installed for that reason.
