am i running TOO cold? what does your temp gauge ussually read
my car is bassically a stock 83 lg4 with a mechanical fan. the temp gauge has a line for 100 then a middle line then 220, i am always right around the middle line (average, it goes a little above and a little bellow) im assuming it has a stock temp thermostat (195), not that im really complaining (im glad im not overheating) but is this sound right, or should i be running hotter?

I also got an 83 Z-28 with the lg4 Mine gets the same temp yours is, right inbetween those markers. It gets hotter if I push it more but just regular city and highway driving im around 180 degrees. Might be more when I install my headers

Both of my cars ran at 220* when they were stock.
They run at 160* pretty much all the time now. 160 stats in each with the primary fan on all the time.

Lets see, my LT1 car runs at 160-180 in hot weather, in cold weather it doesn't register above 160. It's nice when I need AC cause it's super cold, kinda sucks when I want the heater on though. 160* t stat and reprogrammed fan speeds
My 406/th350 S10 would run at 180-190 on the high way, and 210-220 in town. It would peg the temp gauge if I sat in a drive through without paying attention. 180* t stat and a 16" pusher fan.
My GTA never ran long enough for me to find out.
Lastly, my 77 Z28 would run around 190-200 all day long with a 190* t stat and a flex fan.

My oild camaro used to run cold, in the winter I wouldn't even get heat. The thermostat was stuck open and it was a v6 which probably warms up a little slower.
I don't think they will look at your engine temp at a NY inspection. I got through with a cracked windsheild, telling the guy he had to use the fan switch because it wouldn't turn itself on, and an EGR light.
Isn't it bad to run the coolent fan constantly, its going to cut the life of the motor significantly, probably to atleast a 10th of what it would normally be, that fan isn't on very often normally.

no they probably wont check my temps, but im afraid that my emissions levels will suffer from being that cold
and i was tryin to figure out if my thermostat was having problems (im assuming that its a 195 in there) or if this was a normal reading for an early lg4

Awsome! thats cool thanks for the reasurance splinter cell, you do have a 195 t-stat right?
