accel 350 tpi wont start
i am trying to get my brothers 89 iroc-z running after sitting for a couple years. it had a 305 tpi, then he put the accel intake on it. that motor went after a few years and we dropped a 350 from an 89 gta with the stock tpi setup. then one day he wants to put the accel intake on the 350. we get it on, and it wont start. we crank it, and the starter died. so this is where i pick up 4 years later. got a new battery, starter and alternator in it. it cranks good, but wont start. i checked the distributor. we have spark. we have fuel pressure, an adjustable regulator. the regulator seems to only go between 40 and 60, dont know if it should go lower. it has 26lb injectors. if we spray some starting fluid in it, we can get it to start and it runs ok. but it wont start on its own. some tpis had a 9th injector, but this car never did. it ran just fine with this 350 and stock tpi, supposedly it didnt have a 9th injector and it started just fine with this computer. so if anyone has any ideas, i have a couple of misc. computers i could swap and see if there is a difference. maybe the computer in the car was from a 9th injector setup, so its not giving it the startup fuel it needs? and does anybody know if you can go in and program any fuel stuff in the computer so i can make it give more startup fuel?

Is the security light on the dash coming on when you turn the key on? Does it flash when you try to start or does it go out? Wonder if they've bypassed the start relay and not satisfying the Vats system? Could be a tough one to figure out.

If it's starting with starter fluid but not on it's own, I'd look at the injectors. Those 20 year old Multec injectors are starting to fail all over the place on these cars. The ethanol in today's gas doesn't help as those injectors weren't designed for it either.
Ohm check the injectors. Should be in the 16-17 ohm range. If they're below 13 or worse yet, below 10, they're gone. Some of them may be good. Some of them may not.
Shouldn't have to program anything for fuel at startup. The computer would already richen up the fuel supply at start up....But if your injectors are shot, you'll get an ultra lean fuel supply at startup. Hence why it won't start up on it's own, but will if you spray starter fluid into it.

it has new(er) injectors in it. they are 26lbs. which is why it is weird for it to be lean, its injectors are bigger than stock, and i dont think anything was ever done to the computer to compensate.
