about how long does it take to do a v8 - V8 engine swap

i ask becasue i might be able to get a nice 383 from a guy for 800 bux with almost everything on it already even headers, but i have to pass new york emissions, so im thinking can i do a swap from my v8 lg4 to a 383 in a weekend or so. so that i can swap it back next year,
how long would it normally take, i know how to do it i just never have and would like to see some imput form how long an average swap takes.

he said it put his nova in the 12's, if thats true 800 doesnt sound to bad right??? oh and i dont know any other specifics becasue its second hand info from a friend who knows the guy, im gonna go and talk to him next week hopefully.

For that kind of price, I'd be worried about build quality, parts quality etc. If it's all good then get it. That price is awesome.

If you're going carb-carb it should take anywhere from 8-16 hours for a complete swap. Definitely do-able in a weekend assuming you don't run into any "gotchas" or need any parts.

Good luck!

thanks man, a little more info i got: it has 8,000 miles on it and the guy said that he could probably sell the headers for that price or more (wtf im thinking no headers cost that much, but ok), well imm gonna grill him on what its got and everything, and see if i can get him to knock down the price if he takes off the headers,

my next problem is if my 700 r4 tranny is gonna be able to take a few floggings once in a while, im thinking of getting a shift kit and an aftermarket tranny cooler, (i alredy got the look cool factor down with the megashifter) i dont drive hard alot, i actually really baby my car, but i want to be able to smoke my friends when i need to every so often,

for example my friends bitched out and bought an Rx8 and a 350z, which are pretty neat cars in their own ways, but of course there is no way in hell im gonna sit around and let those crappinin jappinin cars beat me when it comes down to a stop light

lol, sounds like a good deal even if the motor IS crap. i'm not sure if the headers will fit cuz of clearance issues (heard many other people having trouble w/ their 383s) but that sounds like a killer deal on a motor. if you don't want it i'll take it

j/k its all yours, i'm broke

A 350 and 383 are identical on the outside. Headers are the same, etc. If they wouldn't fit, it'd be the choice of header, not cubic inch.

I seriously doubt the headers from his Nova will fit your 3rd gen. Oh, and are you getting just the short block for that price or a complete engine?
