I am getting ready to buy a 9 bolt rear out of a Camaro. The rear doesn't have any rotors or calipers. How much are the rotors and calipers going to cost and where can I get them? I'll take prices on new and used parts, I'd like to save money if I can. Do maybe front rotors or calipers fit or parts off a 93+ F-body? Thanks in advance.

The calipers will break the bank, probably 200 bucks for the pair, they had a HUGE core charge.. Rotors probably arent near as bad , 30 bucks ?

Im running 93 Z28 rear calipers and rotors on my 3.73 9 bolt. I bought the calipers and rotors for 125 from this board for the set. Then I bought some bendix pads $44 and new ebrake cablesince 4th gen has a different set up. 25each. Thats how I did it. Also make sure you have the right backing plates. I bought a set off thirdgen.org that were supposed to be for a 9 bolt with disk brakes, but they were not so I had to modify them to fit. BTW if your rear is from an 89 you already have the right backing plates for 93+ brakes.

What do I have to do if it is not an 89 rear because I don't know what year it is? The guy selling it said it has connectors for the calipers would that mean backing plates? What exactly are the backing plates? Did you use 9 bolt backing plates or 93+ and how did you have to modify them?

The backing plates should be the same thing as the connectors for the calipers. The backing plate is the part that the caliper is mounted to. I used the 89 up backing plates. I had to redrill some of the holes due to them not lining up with the 88 9 bolt pattern. The guy I bought them from said they were for a 89 up 9 bolt but obvioulsy he lied.

You want the '89 and up brake setup. Calipers and rotors up until about '97 will work, when they went to the LS1 style I think. If the rear you are looking at has the iron calipers, one leading and one trailing, you can still put the better brakes on it, you will just have to get backing plates for it. I have a friend over on www.thirdgen.org who is having them made at this time.

You should be able to get the whole brake setup for under $250 used. I know the calipers run $70 each with $70 core charges at Auto Zone. You also need the caliper cradles which hold the calipers. These bolt to the backing plates. Some backing plates look a bit different. I just got another 9 bolt and the backing plates didn't have the dust shields that these do. You can't use '93 and up backing plates 'cause they are 10 bolt rears and the bolt holes are different. You can modify them I guess and make them work.

Is there anyway I can make Fiero rotors and stuff work because I have like 3 Fieros. I doubt it but it would be free. Thanks guys for helping me out on this one. So far I have found a great price on everything from a 96 even emergency brake cables and backing plates. I know the backing plates won't fit but if I find out the rear doesn't have any I will make them. The sale is not final but this is probably going to be the way I go. Are 93+ brakes much better than the 9 bolt's. Thanks

I have no idea about the Fiero stuff.

If you can get the '96 brake setup, do it, but get everything. However, the '96 is a 10 bolt rear and will have different backing plates than a 9 bolt. The '96 brakes will be the same as the '89 9 bolt brakes, so there's no "better" system.
