1992 Camaro RS 305, Need advice
Okay, so I recently purchased a 1992 Camaro RS 305. Supposedly a HO one.
The guy said he put in a Shift Kit, 670 Holley Carb, Eldebrock Intake, MSD performance box, MSD Distributor, Comp Cam 5/11, and just some cheap headers. It has an auto trans.
What can I do to give it around 350 HP, or should I say. What can I do to make it smack Mustang GT's, and maybe even beat a hemi 5.7?
My current budget is around 2000.
The car sounds really good coming from everyone else, but I don't want it to be all bark and no bite.

Nothing! There was no 305 ho available for that year. If my memory is correct I think the stock 305 was 170 hp. TPI was not available for an RS unless it was used for police service. Trying to beat a Hemi with a 305 is not going to happen in my opinion. Swap in a 350 first.

There was a higher HP 305 in 1992. RPO "LB9" = 205 HP. That was the base engine in the Z28. Not sure if it was an option in the RS. I think the LB9 may even have had a 230 HP version the was available with the Z28 only with manual trans (to compensate for the fact the T5 manual was too weak to put behind the 350 L98).
Many people write the 305 off as not worth the effort. Takes a bit of work, but can be upgraded. It's just a lot easier to start with the 350.

Are you thinking carb or EFI? Just curious. What ever you do good luck. I'm happy to see another 3rd gen owner. I check out this site every day, but 99% of the time I only check the 3rd gen forum.

Re: 1992 Camaro RS 305, Need advice
Thanks, This is my second third generation camaro. The first was a 90 rs V6. Sold to my friend, shortly after my dad bought and sold his 92 Camaro RS v8. Then I bought this one.
An I plan to keep it a carb car.

From my experience the 305 is under powered from the factory but with the right parts and know how you can get 350 hp. Change the heads, cam, intake, pullys, rocker arms, chip, headers and modify the tbi and install larger injectors. Port and polish the heads, intake and exhaust. Ya its a lot of work but well worth it

Back in the day the 1980 Corvette in( California) came stock with the 305.It was 180hp.The hot rod magazines had a field day with this under powered engine and their suggestion was to do the 350 swap hands down.Might try calling around for prices as this is a easy swap using the same motor mounts, water pump and other things I have forgotten. It's a direct bolt in.You drive in,spent 2-3 grand, then drive out.If you live in Los Angeles, there are numerous shops that do this. They sit you down and ask what you want and what your budget is.You can always upgrade later. It even bolts up to the trans.I don't think they make upgrade parts for the 305 but they do for the 350.Hope this helps.( get the long block)My02.

Re: 1992 Camaro RS 305, Need advice
I know this an old thread, but I just ran across it. I have a 92 RS w/2.73 gears. It has "long legs", especially for a TBI. With my 86 IROC I put a 3.42 geared rear end in it, and to really took advantage of low end torque. This would be a worth while upgrade. I am one of the minority that likes the L03. It is a roller engine for starts. You can replace the intake, and a 2 1/2" exhaust, and a low restriction muffler. This should give you some extra oomph.,
