Hi!
I have a 1990 iroc-z 305 v8...I change a complete distributor ...I have a question it is possible that the engine starts even if the firing oder is not right and can it cause over heating and running rough? thank you

Yes, it'll start. Check to see if you haven't swapped two cylinders by mistake. If you get # 2 & 4 swapped, it'll run just like you are saying. Also, if you have the timing really advanced, or really retarded, it will do that. Lastly, if the distributor is not plugged into the harness properly, it will not have any electronic advance, and it will run and overheat like that. Re-check those things, go over every single plug wire, from the spark plug to the terminal on the distributor to make sure it's plugged in on the correct post.
