1988 z28 convertable rare?

I'm sure if this info is wrong I'll hear about it....
Yep, here we go.
In '88 the IROC and theZ28(look at the dash plate) were one in the same....
In 1987, the Camaro was offered in four different styles: Sport Coupe, Sport Coupe with the LT option, Z28, and Z28 with the IROC-Z option. Chevrolet "determined" that there were too many styles, so for 1988, only the Sport Coupe and IROC-Z returned.
GM did cut corners to save $$$ through the third gen years. Although all exterior "Z28" monikers used in 1987 were replaced with "IROC-Z" badging, the interior in-dash "Z28 / IROC-Z" for 1985-87 was not re-tooled for the 1988 IROC-Z. Therefore, you will still find "Z28 / IROC-Z" emblems in 1988 - 1990 IROC-Z's.
....and if my memory serve me right the verts were farmed out to outside shops, until '89 when they were made in house.
The Camaro convertible option was available through GM beginning in 1987. All third gen convertibles were farmed out to ASC. None were ever made "in-house".

I'm surprised that Willie didn't mentioned, since it is his fortei(sp?), it but the '87 Z28 convertible is probably the rarest 3rdgen Camaro and maybe the rarest 3rdgen period with something like less than 205 made.

in 1987 The Rarest Vert was the Sports Coupe with only 263 were made.
also they only made 744 z28/Iroc-z Verts for that year.
Also in 1990 The RS Vert the only made 729
But with the Irocz Vert they made 1,294 for 1990.
I know where one of the 729 1990 RS Verts sits. Waiting to besold. But I tell everyone to stay away from it. Its not worth what they want for it. & they are telling everyone is a good driver. When in Essence the body is do twisted when you drive it you have to have both hands on the wheel or you will go off the road. No frame shop will touch it, & no alignment shop would either.

'87 Z28 vert is the rarest and willie has stated this over and over at TGO.but who knows,he in one instance said 205 Z28verts were made then saying 744 but hen also says like 20 Z28 verts with tpi and then there is the 20thanniv commemrative editions.

No, '87 Z28 Convertibles are not as rare as '87 Sport Coupe convertibles.
'87 Sport Coupe Convertible has the lowest production number of all convertible third gens, and it is the only third gen convertible with out ground effects.

What I meant to say is.No 1987 Iroc convertibles came to Canada.I have a 1988 Iroc convertible. It has the 5 speed tpi engine which was the hot combo as no 350's were made.It also has the good rear end and 4 wheel discs.I have had it 11 years and it still has original paint.I drive it a bit and it turns heads like crazy.I believe it is the best looking GM ever built and will never sell it! Was not the IROC an up graded Z28? Was not the IROC package only offered on a Z28? Hence one in the same, yes they were sold as differant models but were 28's to start with. Yes you could only buy the IROC (and RS)in '88,and yes there were NO Z28's in '88 perse, but it was still a up graded Z28,was it not?

It is my understanding that the 88 is not that rare. I have a 87 conv. and I understand that there was 263 T tops sent to ASC to be made into conv. I have #0163 and that there was 744 made by Chevorlet in 1987. If you want to check mine out you can find it at cardomain.com With the 87 models you can look at the sixth number in the vin and if it is a 2 it was a T top to start off with, Then if there is a 3 in the vin number it was one of the 744 that Chevorlet made. I am hoping that one day mine will be worth a few bucks but for the time being I am loving mine more everday.
