Re: 1979 305 camaro help!
are you set on building a 305? if so for that much you can build a wopper of a 305 or for the same amount you can build a 355 or a 383 just as easily.
if you are set on the 305 then give world products a call and get a set of their better flowing 305 heads and as for cams, give COMP a call and tell them what you are doing and they will put you with the cam you need for your app.

some time back CAR CRAFT did an article on a 325 hp 305 and they mille a set of vortec heads down and gave it a comfortable cam and they also mentioned the world product heads if you wanted to go that route as well.
shop around on your cragslist and see who has a block for sale and iff poss try to get a 1 pc rear main seall roller lifter block. this can easily detrmined by the bracket on the rear crank area vs no bracket on a 2 pc block and the 1 pc roller will have 3 bosses down the center spine in the lifter valley. VERY easy to see.
or, do your homework and buy a crate motor thats ready to go. be sure to detrmine the flywheel as well being auto or stick. GM has a nice line of various crate motors ready to go right down to the dist and wires.
with 5-6 thou you have more options at your fingertips than you realize.
