My CTS-V brake upgrade thread

well, last night me and my buddy removed the front calipers and rotors. its amazing how big that caliper looks once its off the car. we let the brake fluid start to drip out. it will be replaced with a Willwood EXP 600 brake fluid. tested to 626 degrees with a wet boiling point of 417 degrees. The brake pads i am going with are HAWK HPS all the way around. The CTS-V calipers and front rotors should be in by Monday or Tuesday. once they are in, i will be sending all the calipers out for paint. ill post pictures up as the process goes on.

Re: My CTS-V brake upgrade thread

Take pics of the assembly steps...and then people can do them backwards for disassembly.

Re: My CTS-V brake upgrade thread

disassembly really isnt much. theres 2 bolts that need taken off that connect the caliper to the mounting braket. and then just disconnect the brake line. thats really it. and the rotor has 1 small screw that holds it onto the hub. rotor took a little force to get it off. even with only 4200 miles it was pretty rusted on there. ill post up the pics i have from after i took the parts off, and when everything comes in ill take pics before i install them and while im installing them

Re: My CTS-V brake upgrade thread

well, the front brake pads came in. i have to still pick up the rear ones and the fluid from summit. the rotors are in and 1 of the calipers. apparently their on a bit of a shortage and they were shipped from 2 different locations. hopefully the other one will be here this week

tomorror were working on the car. finishing installing the rear parts that i took off for the pedders bushings. and we should be removing the rest of the front suspension parts that we didnt get off yet, for the pedders and BMR bushings. we might take off the rear calipers also so i can see about getting them painted. ill take pictures

Re: My CTS-V brake upgrade thread

in the process of doing the brakes, i am also installing some bushing from pedders and BMR. up front i am installing the radius rod bushing and the lower control arm bushing from BMR. heres the lower control arm and the new BMR bushing

this is the very stubborn radius rod bushing on the passanger side. i think its going to be easier to take the radius rod out before the lower control arm, for the driver side.

here is the driver side rotor and caliper off. only 2 bolts to take the caliper off and make sure you disconnect the brake line.

here the passanger side disassembled. notice the very hi tech container we used for the brake fluid to drip into.....

and here is the calipers and rotors off the car. the calipers are very light, yet the rotors are freaking heavy!

Re: My CTS-V brake upgrade thread

worked on the car a bit yesterday. we ended up getting the stubborn radius rods out and the driver side lower control arm. the radius rod isnt as stubborn when you actually know how to remove it . we didnt do anything more with the brakes yet, however we did install all of the rear suspension components that i had. Pedders Upper and lower control arm bushings. so the whole back end is back together, we just need to put weight to the car to re tighten all the bolts. im going to get a few pictures of the brakes, or brake that came in. im waiting for the other one before i take them home to install them.

ive been thinking, maybe ill keep the front calipers silver and see how they look, and then paint the rears to match.....

Re: My CTS-V brake upgrade thread

Cool. What's the secret to the radius rod removal?

Re: My CTS-V brake upgrade thread

theres 2 spots that you hit with a hammer and the shock waves shake it loose. you can actually see it in the second picture. there are 2 flat spots right below the ball joint. you hit those and it just drops out. now i need a new boot on one of my ball joints because the pickle fork tore it apart.
