It could be a way to open a new niche in the pony car/ performance car world. It would at least be worth looking into

I'd consider it, but it would have to be lightweight and have a lot of potential (very high tech).

I don't really like the idea of it. However, I really hope diesel starts to appear in other cars and a performance car made specifically to be a diesel would definitely catch my eye.

A turbo diesel? Hell yes I would. Especially with the new TD's GM is putting out. They are getting the HD trucks in the 12s with simple mods. Plus they sound a lot better than the clangy old diesels. The newer turbo diesel trucks are getting almost double the mileage the same trucks with gas powerplants are getting.

After seeing what some of these turbo diesels do, I would definitely consider it.

I'd never buy a diesel Camaro muchless any other diesel sports car. Sorry.

I'd rather have a silent electric Camaro than one that sounds like a pickup.

all they drive in Europe is cars that are smaller than mini coopers anyway...cus gas is like $5 a gallon. Thats why they have so many diesels...those lil diesel cars get like 50 mpg...but they are no muscle car.

Really??? While there were many small cars on the road, they all were not that small. The type of car I saw the most where I lived (Mannheim, DE) was medium sized sedans, wagons, coupes and crossovers.
IMO...as long as the sales expectation was not too great, a deisel camaro would sell in Europe.

Since we're all online here, some of you guys should check out the diesels available in Europe.

A diesel BMW (730d) was faster and got better mileage than the 745i model. I forget which car magazine it was, but the editors chose the diesel over the gas model, and they all wanted it here.

Same thing with Mercedes. A diesel E class has the same luxury, more torque, and better mileage than the gas version.

With the tightening sulfur regulations we'll be able to use those motors by '09.

Those of you worried about loud clatter and big plumes of smoke are stuck in the 80's, just like your trucks. That's not how diesels operate in Europe any more, and it shows how little you know about cars world-wide.

If the motor has 350hp/550tq while getting 30% better economy, and is almost indistinguishable from a gas motor, what's the difference?

well my main concern with a diesel is performance. we are talking about a musclecar not a lil econo box. The reason why we dont have diesels like that in America is that they dont pass emissions and their isnt really a market for them. no diesel will ever be the same as small block v8.
