Between you, me, and the computer screen, the car was refrered to as an F-body just over a year ago.

The chassis aparently is now designated C6Z.

My guess: the "Z" part=Zeta

Re: Will the new camaro still be called an "F-body?"

GM still uses the letter designation in their VINs. Go to the dealer and check any of their vehicles. Or go to GM's website where they have production results by plant. They have the letter designation of the vehicle next to it's name.
So it's not inconceivable that it could still be called the F-body. The platform may be some sort of Zeta or Sigma (or combo), but the car could still be designated F-body.

Re: Will the new camaro still be called an "F-body?"

I just did some quick digging.
The STS and CTS are D-bodies, the GP is, of course, the W-body, the Cobalt is the A-body, and the Malibu and G6 are Z-bodies.
The 4th character in the VIN is the body designation. The 5th digit will break it down further.
So why can't the 5th gen be called the F-body. The first 4 of the VIN would be 1G1F (assuming the car is assembled in the US).

Sorry bro, but that'll be 2G1F . (you know it's gonna be built in Canada again, right ).

Now if the new car is going to be built on the sygma / zeta platform (Zegma? ) then would that give new meaning to the Z in Z28? So this site would then be referred to as CamaroZegma28.com!

Well, with the earthy-crunchy's in the Northeast, they SHOULD market it with the F involved...instead of Zeta, call it Feta As in feta cheese, which is a material substance said earthy-crunchie's put on top of their hummus-laden wheat crackers.

You guys down south are shaking your head right now...some of us up here do, too And for those of you who don't have a clue what the hell I'm talking about, I'll shut up

I say call it what it is.

My F-body loses meaning when you start calling something an F-body that is a Zeta platform.

There have been many changes in the F-car platform from 1967 to 2002....and all along it was still called an F-body. This is no different.

Man, we are car geeks.

Yeah, it's starting to sound like a fraternity around here .....

"Sygma, Delta, Kappa, Zeta ... Zegma!!!"

... so when do we implement the secret password and secret handshake?

Cool Re: Will the new camaro still be called an "F-body?"

As long as the camaro name lives they can call it anything they want.

Re: Will the new camaro still be called an "F-body?"

I would think by VIN it would still be an F designation, but the platform is no longer the F chassis.
