Someone was driving the 5th gen. Bumblebee drove by it, scanned it, and transformed himself into a copy of that 5th gen, which proceeded down the road unaffected.

The original 5th gen was not "converted" in any way.

Oh I get it. I guess I saw it wrong then, and I know I am not the only one.

Thanks!

Someone driving a new Camaro down the road could easily be explained when you consider the movie could have simply been set in the year 2009.
"present day"

"Present Day" in the movie doesn't necessarily mean present day for us...

I believe there is a scene where Frenzy scans the cell phone. He scans it, then tosses it away.

Same when Jazz scans the Solstice. And when Optimus scans the big rig, it drives by, then they pan over to see him reformatting himself into it.

They scan the vehicle/whatever then reformat themselves to match it. That's how it's always been.

Well, George Bush is still president in the movie and he'll be out of terms in 2009.

I wouldn't worry about explaining why a concept car is driving around and subsequently scanned by Bumblebee. Maybe it was undergoing prototype testing?

What the hell kind of logic is that?!?!?

Based on Sam's family tree, he was born in 1990, and was in his junior year in school. Hence 17 years old, in the year 2007. So yes, it is present day.

It's the same kind of logic that has a concept car due out in 2009 driving down the road in 2007. LOL

Where did it say he was born in 1990? (OMG that makes me feel old that someone born in '90, 2 years before I graduated HS, would now be 17!!!!!)

Very true, I forgot about that.

That scene alone should have tipped anyone not educated in Transformers on what happens. LOL

Somehow asking why a Camaro concept car driving down the street is odd in a movie where machines come from a distant planet and take the shape of Earthly machines to fight over a cube that in turn gives life to mechanical objects is kinda silly. If anything seeing a Camaro concept car driving down the road is one of the more believable scenes of the movie!
