Question for the FBODFATHER
Hi, New to the forums and just wanted some advice. I'm a student at CCS in Detroit and I'm aspiring to be an automotive industrial designer. I'm wondering how long it takes or how much experience you need to work on a project like the camaro/corvette? What do the majority of ID college grads fresh out of college get to work on if their hired for GM? In an ID sketch book what should I focus on? I have two do by sept. and wan't to make a very good impression for the teachers. Any comment's would be glady appreciated. I spoke with Sang yup Lee last summer at a GM presentation at our college- Awesome guy and very helpful. Thanks and Have a great week Camaro fans.

Re: Question for the FBODFATHER
He tends to post far more often in the 5th Gen Camaro forum and the Future Vehicle/Automotive News forum, so you might try posting there.
Or, try sending him a PM.

knowing someone who did work on Corvette... it took him years to make the Corvette team... and more importantly, alot of hard work and long hours.
Be realistic... I'm sure most engineers at GM would LOVE to work on the "fun" cars. You'd have to earn your way onto the team.

Re: Question for the FBODFATHER
Hey there, Camaroz282008 --
Keep working hard at your studies. That's the number one priority right now -- NEVER compromise.
Learn everything you can in school -- including how to write. (you'd be surprised at how many people can't write a simple business letter.....)
How long does it take to work on 'cool' cars? That depends. Many of the design team on the Camaro concept were under 30 -- it depends on many things -- but standing out in design is crucial. Additionally, you can be a great designer, but if you can't communicate -- and you can't present yourself well, you'll never get that 'plum' job.
I'm always happy to see the younger members of this and other boards showing interest in working for GM -- and to see the 'dreams' if you will.
Good luck!!

Re: Question for the FBODFATHER
Ya, im paraphrasing what the main designer of the new car (Chris Kim) said was keep at it and make some impressive stuff and hope it gets noticed by someone in the industry/specifically GM. If you got the talent that helps a lot.

Re: Question for the FBODFATHER
Thanks alot FBODFATHER and other members. This up coming year will be my sophmore year at CCS and I heard it's one of the hardest to conquer, but I'm bound and determined. After all working for GM would be a dream come true. I plan to buy my new 2008 Camaro Z28 Blk/Blk by the time I graduate in 2009 and hopefully have a job with the General. Man would that be cool to say I work for GM Design.
