Dealers probably wont run your credit until the car is on their lot. By February or March, credit will be easier to get, unless Congress doesnt approve the $700 billion bailout of Wall street. The Prez is on at 9pm tonight.

50% x [unknown] = [unknown]

How do you know how much to write the check for if you don't know the total price? How does the dealer know?

You don't have to write the check until you take delivery, at that time prices will be available. When people are putting in orders, they don't necessarily have to put any money down. If the dealership orders the car, and you don't want it, they can sell it to someone else. You can also cancel the order, or adjust it, after prices come out.

Credit score for mortgages moved up from 680 to 720 and autos are a notch below that. Even with 50% down, you will have to show that you are able to pay on the balance, ie. your payment will be $300/month instead of $600/month.

believe me i understand about making payments and how credit works. ive owned my house since i was 19.
and as far as how much im putting down i wont know until the pricing is out but the money wont be going down until the loan comes in for the car.
and if for some odd reason i cant get approved for the carwith 50% down then ill just pay it off. but i dont see it getting that drastic.

I e-mailed about 7 or 8 local Chevy dealers near me last night and FINALLY found a few of them that knew what was going on. They actually knew the 10/13 ordering date and are actually selling them at MSRP. Of course I got a few replies back stating that knew basically nothing and one even thought the first day of production was February 9th! Amazing that not all dealers are on the same page and give out wrong information. I understand that most GM dealers are just worrying about getting rid of the leftover '08s right now, but they need to also worry about the other people not interested in '08s on their lots. Now just have to decide which dealer to go with.

What state are those dealers in. Try posting the dealers under the "MSRP or Below Dealer" thread. It would help some people who need to find an honest dealer.

Oh yea...please. What dealers are under? I've had a deposit down for nearly a year now at my local/large dealer. I'm guaranteed MSRP but am wondering if I should just put it off awhile until I can get GM discount (and maybe HUD too).

They are all in North Carolina, just north of Charlotte. Ben Myatt Chevrolet in Concord, NC told me that they are selling at MSRP. I am still trying to find out their volume and hopefully will learn of their allocation soon.

I e-mailed them as well and they knew next to nothing, just had a waiting list. I did however find out that today the dealers in the southeast had a meeting with GM in Atlanta and they just got back today. They were told about the ordering date and process. So hopefully dealers will now start learning more information and passing it on to the customers.

Cash baby.....100% cash that won't go down in a stock market crash. I'd rather lose it in depreciation on a new camaro than on Wall Street!
