Cool The Official 2014 Camaro Z/28 Thread - Post pictures, videos, and questions here

Hello all! I have to say, it's been a helluva last 24 hours. GM brought me out to the Auto Show in New York, and we all know why now. They surprised everyone, including us, and unveiled the brand new 2014 Camaro Z/28.

Please use this thread for pictures, videos, and questions of the new Z/28. I'll be posting lots more and answering questions after I get organized from coming home for the trip. Also, be sure to check out the Podcast episode that will be released this Sunday as I got some good interviews with the Camaro team.

In the meantime, I'll leave you with the unveiling video. It's was a very memorable event and I'll forever remember the date of March 27, 2013 - the day the Camaro Z/28 came back.

Pricing wasnt discussed and is usually not announced until just before production.

Chris and I spent a good 3 hours with Al last night at dinner. The Z/28 is a kick *** track car. When GM releases the Z/28's 'ring lap times, that will put this car into perspective.

I've read about 9 color coded grilles. What's that all about?
Are they like the Heritage grille?

I gotta say, with all the interviews and people I spoke to at GM this week, I didn't hear this at all.

Here are a couple interior shots I got. LOVE the Recaro seats! And sorry to the folks who like the Automatic transmissions, because this car will only come in a 6 speed manual.

Are the Recaros power or manually adjusted?

I noticed the Z they showed didn't have the 4 pack of gauges in the console. What's up with that?

When will we see/get info on the '14 1LE?

The DIC is new (now color). Did it get any functionality upgrades? Like performance measurements like the Mustang & new Vette have?

I believe the Recaros are manual seats. The seat was already all the way back when I got in, so I didn't need to adjust it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

4 pack gauges are gone due to weight. Everything that didn't need to be there, is gone.

The '14 1LE will follow along the rest of the 2014 refresh line of Camaro's. The refreshed '14 Camaro with the 1LE package.

No functionality upgrades that I know of for the DIC.

The Z is the uber-performance car and they took out the gauges that help the driver monitor the car's performance?
That doesn't seem right.
How will they replace the functionality of those gauges?

Or is the 4-pack gone for ALL Camaros?

Re: The Official 2014 Camaro Z/28 Thread - Post pictures, videos, and questions here

I have some questions about the Z/28.

1. Will there be mounting points for a 4 or 5 point harness and harness bar?
2. Will the only option on the Z/28 be for A/C? What about mylink w/ navigation?
3. Can you easily add more speakers to the car if you want? I.e. the speaker harness is intact and the radio can accommodate the addition of more speakers to the system.
4. I know there isn't supposed to be any insulation in the cockpit, but is it truly just carpet? Or is there another material like dynamat?

Lastly, if there will be options allowed for the car, I think it would be neat if the weight of each option be given as well as the price of it.

Those Recaro seats are very nice. It's very exciting that they will be an option to ZL1 and SS's. I wouldn't even mind if they stayed manual operation.

The changes to the RS package are nice. No more confusing DRL's with fog Lamps!

No, if it isn't in the existing Camaro it isn't being added. The Z/28 is all about stripping down the current car into raceform.

2. Will the only option on the Z/28 be for A/C? What about mylink w/ navigation?

Yes, I believe you are correct. They only left one speaker in the car so you can hear the seat belt chime. Remember this is a stripped down Z/28.

3. Can you easily add more speakers to the car if you want? I.e. the speaker harness is intact and the radio can accommodate the addition of more speakers to the system.

I'm sure you can add whatever you want to the car...however, anything that isn't being used, was yanked out of the car for weight reduction.

4. I know there isn't supposed to be any insulation in the cockpit, but is it truly just carpet? Or is there another material like dynamat?

No, there isn't dynamat in there. It's carpet.

Remember folks, this a the Z/28 stripper car. I think the only possible addition to this car is the Recaro seats.

Re: The Official 2014 Camaro Z/28 Thread - Post pictures, videos, and questions here

Its my understanding that the Recaro seats are the only seats available for it since its a track car. The only thing I was really curious about was with racing harness. Any car dedicated to track duty will use racing harness. No big deal, I'm sure the aftermarket will take car of that quickly.

Personally, I do hope the radio is functional. I probably would add a speaker on the passenger side just to have stereo. And you can always add dynamat if it gets too hot.

But I'd rather have the car just like it is and mod it later if needed.
