When will the next Corvette and Silverado debut? NAIAS 2013? That should put the 5.5L rumors to rest (or confirm them).

not exactly. depends if hte 5.5 will be base model,z06 or zr1...youd have to wait to see what model it may be for. i thought i heard somewhere that the z06 wont be out the first year of the c7. i may be wrong though.

Re: NEWS: Next-gen Chevy Camaro confirmed for 2016MY, 6.2L V8 engine to remain

since we have so many racing experts on here.... does anyone know the reason why corvette racing went from the 7.0 to the 5.5 instead of going to a 6.2 or even stay with the 6.0 they had in 2009?
i know the corvette had to make changes due to hp restrictions, and that was the initial reason for change. but why choose to go with an entirely new setup? why not use the existing 6.2?
well see how many smart ole men we have on here.......

The 5.5 displacement was for the racing restrictions in the GT2 class. It was originally a 6.0 and was downsized to 5.5 in 2010 due to new rules. This is why certain insiders keep insisting that the 5.5L is not a production motor, it is being confused with the race motor that is only that size because it had to be. Yet somehow this rumor won't die.

Chevrolet Corvette C6.R - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You don't have to be a "smart ole man" to do a Google search or look up the C6R program in Wikipedia.

I did look it up. But we have so many know it alls here, that I don't need to look around. And yes, obviously it's not a production motor....it's a prototype. This is how most brands develop their motors.

Ok well, you asked what the reason was and I told you, with a supporting link.

You've always acted like someone was insulting your mother whenever someone disputes the old production 5.5L rumor. I still don't really understand why.

I just don't understand all the hate on it when the speculation is so huge. And I can't be the only guy who's ever brought this up. It seems like a lot of people act like they know when no one, knows anything. Wether it is or not, even the nay sayers don't know. I have evidence towards my case, yet no one has evidence that this is not the next motor.

Hate? Those are your words. We're just stating the obvious, and you're being too stubborn to see what we are saying. That is, the 5.5L V8's sole purpose is to meet class requirements for racing. As I pointed out, even the original 302-cid production V8 (that was created for racing) was bored out for the racing series to 305-cid which was the maximum allowed in the series (5000cc). Assuming the next gen V8 is downsized for fuel economy, a more logical displacement is 5.3L, which is already in production, and not 5.5L. However, is 5.3L going to save you much more in fuel efficiency over 6.0L or 6.2L? That's hard to say. However I'm willing to bet that a 5.3L direct injected V8 will put out similar or better performance numbers as the current 6.2L V8, and get better fuel mileage, which for obvious reasons is the direction in which they want to be headed.

That said, don't count your chickens until they're hatched. My "guess" is the next generation Corvette and Camaro engines will have at least one V8 that displaces equal to or more than whatever Ford is offering at the time in the Mustang. However, the bread and butter V8 (if offered) will displace 5.3L.

This is like saying "you have no proof that Bigfoot doesn't exist, therefore he does."

As you said, there are precious few who really know the answer (none of us posting here do). Using a logical approach, and taking into consideration things that have been posted here in the past by people I trust, I am highly skeptical of a production 5.5L motor. But I'm not nearly as emotionally invested in the argument as you seem to be.

If it's a Gen 4 SBC @ 5.5L then you can rake me across the coals..

... While I rake GM across the coals wondering why they did something illogical.

Not really sure it would be a first for either

Believe me I'm not emotionally invested. I just hate the fact that everyone here knows exactly what gms next move is and I am the only one in the dark. And it still boggles my mind all the stories and " insiders" saying the 5.5 is the next motor. Yet average joes here know more than the insiders.

Depends on what "insiders" you're listening to. Rule #1 I have learned when it comes to this stuff - magazine people are generally not the kind of "insiders" they claim to be, and their sources can be very hit-or-miss. All you have to do is go back and read all the old, wild speculation in various magazines about the 5th Gen Camaro between 2002 and 2006 that they tried to pass off as "fact" to know that.
