New Z/28? Need some change first
Disclaimer: I didnt see this posted anywhere, I apologize if its a repost
I saw the April Motortrend today at the school library. The have an article about the Z/28 thats apparently ready to go.
They said that they have seen clay models and spoken with people inside GM and that this version of the camaro will have the LSA (CTS-V engine) pushing around 556 horses. Thats good for about 3.9 0-60 and low 12s in the quarter.
According to their inside souces the Z/28 is basically done.
But wait! theres more
Given the current financial state of GM there is no money left to produce or even release the Z/28. Congress wants Priuses and this is about as far from a Prius as you can get.
So Obama, how about some of that change? I could sure use some change if I'm going to get a shiny 2011 Z/28
BTW here is the link:

Yeah, let's not turn this into a political debate and stick to cars (), but what you said about the car is said to be pretty accurate. Just waiting to have the trigger pulled on it.
Unfortunately, with things being the way they currently are, GM has to reel in the fun and put efforts into becoming profitable. Hurts our enjoyment but might be better in the long run. Hope so anyway.

Do you think the specs for the package could just be sold to SLP (or another major tuner) and be produced by them?
Kind of like how the 4th gen SS was like a SLP/GM deal?

You'd be hard pressed to find anything "new" around here, especially if the source is Motortrend, or the like.
However, the debate about whether or not the Z/28 will be built being based upon Washington wanting more Priuses is a bit of a stretch. The politicians want Detroit to become successful, that means finding a more efficient way to build cars that consumers want and will purchase. When gas prices were almost double what they are today that meant smaller and more efficient cars. While that may still be the case over the next 5-10 years, that doesn't necessarily negate the demand for a specialized musclecar, especially when GM has already managed to presell 14,000 before they ever hit the showroom floor.
Furthermore, in light of the base model being EPA certified at 29mpg highway, the Camaro may end up being the poster child for environmentally friendly American made performance cars moving forward. Interesting change of events, eh?
