New Camaro vs Ford GT500

Lofty goal for a base V8 to aim for the top dog Mustang, even if looking at it from a price vs performance perspective... but it's always good to set the bar high.
Here's a good way to look at this.... When it's all said and done, I am confident GM will deliver a car that will hold its own. If something beats it, the other car will be deserving of a tip of your cap.

True, It's always been GM vs Ford let's just hope that some of the guy's at GM look at the fourm. Hopefully GM gets us back in the game big time.

I don't care if it outperforms the GT500 or not, that's not what having the car is about, for me at least. The fact that it usually blows the competition away is just an added bonus that seems to occur often.

There might not even be a Ford by the time the Camaro comes out. They are tanking hard and making GM look like a financial rock comparitively speaking. If the Camaro gets a supercharged engine then the Camaro will be able to take it but lately GM is scaring me with that damn torque management on everything. Don't advertise xx hp and xx tq if you aren't gonna give it to us except for one quick burst in the winter.

Ford isn't going anywhere. They'll be around in 2009,10 and so on. As far as the Camaro vs GT500 I'd say its just to soon to call. As it stands Im sure GM is working on a GT500 competitor. By 2009 though Ford im sure will be developing a GT500 successor. The new redesigned Mustang with the 5.8-6.2 Boss powertrain will arrive in 2010. So if the General releases a New top dog Camaro say 2009 with the LS7 being that the camaro be lighter then the GT500 I'd say the Camaro would come out on top at least for 2009 model year. Now 2010-12 is another story. Either way Im just plain excited to see the Camaro, Mustang and Challenger roaming the streets side by side once again in 2009.

2tight, car planning simply doesn't stand still waiting for another vehicle to run it over. When we know what the horsepower and price numbers are for the 2010 GT500, let alone the 2010 Camaro (which Camaro are you talking about?...A V6?... A SS?.... Some unknowned super Camaro?) we'll be better able to answer.

Just like everyone else has said, there are too many unknowns to answer that question clearly. I will tell you this much; if the top Camaro doesn't come with a supercharger then the GT500 (or equivalent) will be the victor. My reasoning being that the only people who are going to race these cars stock for stock are the car rags. And the average joe doesn't spring for a head/cam combo, nitrous, or aftermarket boosted applications. Majority of these cars will get the catback/cold-air treatment. Now your going to go up against a car that the average joe throws on a pulley and a tune. The boosted car is going to win. Its the same case with the 03/04 Cobra vs. LS1 f-body. Sure there are plenty of F-bodies that will hand a built Cobra his @ss but the average joe just isn't going to buy what it takes to make the power that a factory boosted motor is capable of.
