IRs is not a bad thing, it will often keep the rear from coming around in a bumpy tight turn where a solid axle is all over the place. I wouldn't swap it, just dial it in for more aggressive handling. Now a dedicated drag car is another story.

Whats so bad about a close race? Its been a LONG time(17+ years) since there has been a good race between the Camaro and Mustang.

Camaro power(426/420) to weight(3860):

9.06 lbs per hp

9.19 lbs per ft-lb of torque

Mustang power(412/390) to weight(3650):

8.86 lbs per hp

9.36 lbs per ft-lb of torque

I can't wait.

I'll be honest and say I am very torn between which car to get. 2010/11 Camaro SS or 2011 Mustang GT.

My wife drives a '10 Mustang GT, 5spd., 3.73 and I love it. Interior quality is fantastic and it is plenty quick.

My current ride is a Caliber SRT4 that has been warmed over and is deadly from a roll but flat out blows from a stop due to traction issues.

This would be my first Camaro if I make the choice. I think the LS3/99 is an outstanding platform that responds well to mods and frankly I love pushrod motors. This stems from my previous '90 Mustang coupe where I was running 11's on a N/A 302.

It is a damn tossup for me and is driving me nuts....

There's no wrong choice and I think you'd be happy with either car. I myself am leaning towards the mustang, but since your wife already has a 2010 GT i'd say go with the camaro. That way, you'd have 2 very nice (and different) cars in your garage.

Camaro still has more HP/Tq and will likely still be faster as long as gearing is similar. I'd like to see the 5th gen get direct injection on the V8.

Mustang GT will weight about the same as a Camaro SS

Back in the early 2000's all people did is complain about how the next Camaro needed IRS standard. I don't know of any imports that don't have IRS.

Not likely. The Mustang is projected to run a mid 4 0-60 and 12 sec. 1/4 mile.

If you click on the link at the bottom of my specs post you will see that the non-vert will gain about 10 lbs. Still puts it at 300lbs. less than the Camaro.

The Camaro will have the advantage in the aftermarket parts and response to mods.

Throw some 4.30's in with some stickies and I would venture to say low 12's for the Mustang with the occasional 11 sec. run here and there.
Stock for stock the Mustang will win in all areas of performance.

They updated the specs on the Ford site. Now it says 3603lbs for a manual GT coupe.

Should be pretty fast. The 2000 Cobra R was 3600lbs and it ran mid-high 12's with 30 less hp and a wheel hopping IRS.
