just my .02 worth
Hope this is ok to post in this forum. But I was just wondering what the price will be for this new V8 sport coupe. Been reading all the wish lists and dos and donts that everyone has posted. It seems that most everyone wants this new "camaro" to have over 400 hp. 450, 475 maybe even 500, and keep the price below, or around $30,000. So I started thinking, what do the Vette and GTO go for (you know, LS2, 400 hp and 400 ft lb)? MSRP for a base 2006 Vette $44,990, and the MSRP for a 2006 GTO is $34,295. So I'm thinking in 2 to 3 years if and when this new V8 sport coupe is out, its going to be between 38,000 to 42,000. Hopefully I'm wrong.

My guess is as good as anyone’s but I really think the line up will look something close to this:
Base V6 around 20 grand
Fully loaded Mid level with about 350 hp under 30 grand
Top Level with around 400 to 450 hp in the mid 30 grand range
And don’t worry its going to be named CAMARO……

i was thinking close to that.
base model starting @$18,500
mid-level starting @ $23,500
top dog starting @ $28,500
p.s.- as to avoid "The Debate", i purposely left out what designation will be where. if the concept has any badges on it besides just Camaro, we'll have plenty of those starting up .

Wow I disagree; you really have to look at this in 2009 dollars not 2002.
But even in 2002 the “so called” top SS fully loaded couldn’t be found on a lot for much less than the lower 30’s.
And that’s a conservative statement especially once the Special Editions came out.
I really don’t think the base model even in its most stripped form will go for less than $19,995
I just think I’m being realistic, and for once we disagree
I will say the mid model in its most stripped form will go for about what you said….maybe slightly more…..I’m thinking starting around 25ish and a fully loaded vert going for just a few over 30…
But yeah I agree, leave the “badges” out of this debate…and remember everyone horsepower will not sell this car…I don’t know how many times I must repeat that…
BTW we actually had a pretty good thread going about this a few weeks ago, I think Jason E started it, lemme go see if I can find it….

Expect it to follow somewhere between the Mustang and Challenger price numbers. If a base V6 mustang is 21k, the Camaro could sit at 22.
I assume that it will be a bit more then the Mustang, but Camaro will offer more for the buck, and its what GM is gunna have to show that it is better on all levels.

i know my base number seems alittle low, but the new Mustang's MSRP is $19,800. i was thinking if GM can get the Camaro in under the Mustang's MSRP, it would be a great way to make the Camaro look more attractive to someone in the market for a sporty coupe that isn't brand loyal.
and i totally agree about HP not being a selling point at all! GM needs to push things like a lower price point (if they can), better available features, saftey, and fuel economy. the Camaro needs to get out and get sales before we start worrying about getting 500hp models.
the smartest move Ford made was getting the new Mustang to market and waiting to release the GT500 and other performance models.

Re: just my .02 worth
If the plan is to make V6 sales work, then they need to price the V6 less than the similarly equipped Mustang, even if its just by a couple hundred bucks.
I believe a V8 performance version would do well in this market even if it was a little more than the Mustang. However if GM, Ford and Daimler Chrysler all have pony cars in the market at the same time, the best we can hope for is an all out war on performance and price with each trying to one up the other. That would be a good thing IMO.
