the '04 GTO's didn't get hood scoops because the federal government wanted a year to do testing on emissions, crash safety, etc. For hood scoops. GM said "screw it", because they wanted to get the car out the door. Hence, the year-long wait for hood scoops and other goodies.

Re: interesting idea - 2009 ZL1

The use of the LS7 for a special version of the camaro seems like a real possibility to me. I have recently heard rumours that there will soon be a new vette with better performance than the z06. Rumour has it that it will use a suppercharged version of a smaller engine that the ls7 and pump out 600hp.
Expect the price to be $100,000. For now people are calling it the "Corvette SS" But I don't know if the name will stick. Either way, it means we can get a 500hp Camaro without the vette fanboys getting P.O.'ed about another gm being faster than the vette.

Good news all around if it's true

i think the "Blue Devil" as it was called, was actually just a stock Z06. There have been rumors flying about a possible 600 HP 'vette though.

They are much more than rumors, and "Blue Devil" has been by all accounts dropped for a certain two consonants...

Anyhoo, anybody wanna bet that the Camaro SS tops 450hp by 2010?

I'd almost say it's a must, that is, if they want to run with Dodge. You can bet a Callenger SRT8 will be.
Man, is this gonna be a great decade or what!..

Sh*t I'd take a 427 LS7 GTO "The Judge" while waiting for the Camaro or SuperCamaro! How bout a COPO Camaro too? No luxuries, just all motor!

I would hope they would use something a bit better than the ls7. Since the 69 ZL1's were making around 600hp at the crank.

What would you suggest? If the information on Digitalcorvettes has any accuracy to it, then the only GM motor capable of producing 600hp would be the supposed up and coming LS9, and they are saying over there that this motor is supposed to be Corvette specific, as in not even Cadillac will get a variant of it.
I think an LS7 would be fine, and I would be overjoyed in getting one in a 5th gen. I am still wondering what GM plans on using in the 5th gen to compete with the GT500 and the SRT8.

i think if we don't get a version of the LS7, we might get SC 6.2 that everyone has been buzzing about............

although i'd still rather have the N/A LS7

Re: interesting idea - 2009 ZL1

I would prefer the LS7 as well, simply from a weight standpoint. Z284ever brought up the point a few months back that if we got a derivitave of the LS9 in the Camaro, we will most likely get an iron block to go along with that. That is almost 100 extra pounds right on the nose of the car, where the weight doesn't need to be, and that is not even considering what other weight the blower/intercooler will add.

I undstand what you're saying. I just don't want to dillute the zl1 name. Any time someone says anything about an xxxx mustang, we can always say, "but we got the zl1." I was also thinking along the lines of less than 100 600+hp Camaros, like the original zl1, but it would be rather hard for GM to make money off of that.

Re: interesting idea - 2009 ZL1

I seriously doubt we will be seeing anything like the ZL1

I know what I said above…..

But to be honest I would be floored, absolutely shocked to see GM announce a super Camaro during this time period.
