Re: I don't understand...

Here's some trivia....

Berlinetta traces it's roots to Camaro SS. Why?

For 1973 the Type LT replaced the Camaro SS, (per official GM press release).

In 1979 Berlinetta replaced Type LT.

Camaro SS ------> Type LT------> Berlinetta.
Great info Charlie!

I never realized that..... though as old as I am, I should.

I'm not starting anything. More of a thought. Why, can't the SS be an engine upgrade and the Z28 be a suspention upgrade. So, one could possibly have and SS Z28 or Z28 SS...whatever? Just a thought.

You just made my day.

The interiors of the Berlinetta were a lot nicer and they had a lot more factory options. They were also insulated better to decrease exterior noises. It has 5 less hp than a Z/28 of the time (at least my year/model). It was basically considered the "luxury" model of the Camaro.

As far as the person who said "why not have an RS as the top model" it could be... if I recall correctly the First and Second Gens had RS/SS models and Z/28RS models.
On the early Second Gens the RS option pertained to the front bumper having four round headlights adverse to two, and a couple other styling cues. Later Second Gen RS options gave the car a two-toned paint job.
So, yes, RS could technically be a top model, just historically not listed by itself.

I want a 09 RS/SS/Z28/TYPELT/BERINETTA/IROC! Hell with that many stickers on it, the ricers will think the thing has 500 hp no matter what engine is in it!
