Got to see the new Camaro and SS in big D!

We got to the press event about 30 minutes after it started, so we missed hearing whatever the unveiling plan was, so we just mingled and looked around. We found Scott early on and visted briefly, then headed inside to check out the car show. There were only about half a dozen folks inside, the rest were outside listening to the concert and eating the free food, and it was like having our own private show. It was great! A few things I noted was that GM really does have a nice lineup these days. In years past, we would go to a show really only wanting to see a couple of things, this year just about every brand had something new or interesting to check out. Wifey liked the Traverse, Buick LaCrosse and Lucerne, the CTS, and the Sky. I liked the G8, ZR1, and CTS. We spent a great deal of time in there, and saw the stage the Camaro was supposed to be on, but w/ time winding down on the event, we figured we were probably missing something outside, so we went back out to check. We were right...

They were just pulling a black RS onto an area back off the stage a bit and there was already a crowd around it. It was a bit dissapointing that it was a black car, at night, that was unlit, but that just made me feel better about forgetting my camera, as the pics probably wouldnt have turned out well anyway. But as to the car, wow! The proportions were as I expected, not too big, not too small. Tucked in here and there from the concepts design, nothing radical. Overall, a very nice and liveable sized package.

Likes:
Stance, Halos, Wheel finish, tail lights, body design, seats, console gauges.

Dislikes:
After spending time w/ the interiors of the CTS and Malibu inside, I still come away w/ a lukewarm feeling towards the silver painted plastic on the Camaros center console and steering wheel. There are bits of Chrome here and there, but overall it just didn't look as "finished" as some of the more recent GM interiors.

I don't care for the blue/green lighting of the Camaros gauges at night. The red trim clashes even more w/ it. I've always liked the red interior gauge lighting of the Formula I had, and thought that would look great in the Camaro, or at least just white w/ red dials, but the blue/green w/ red trim just kind of clashes. Though when they're all lit up, there is a lot going on visually, something akin to a passenger jets cockpit at night w/ the panels all lit up. It was interesting to look at, I just didn't care for the color choice.

One thing we noticed about several of the GM vehicles is the much improved appearance of the wheel paint. I've always been one to prefer an alloy look to my wheels, a natural metal like finish. In recent history, GMs painted wheels had a ton of flake in it that, to me, just screamed "I'M PAINTED". But I've noticed a change. I saw it first w/ the '07 Indy pace car vette. The wheels were the new split spoke style, but the finish was a very creamy metallic silver that gave a very close approximation to being a polished finish on the wheel. Last night, I saw something similar on the Colorado, CTS, ZR1, and I believe the Camaro. The wheel paints now do a VERY good job of giving the car an alloy look which is MUCH more pleasing to my eye. The Colorado's finish was a darker tint, almost on its way to a black chrome look, but it retained a bright machined lip. Very nice!

We also got a look at several of the Camaro colors on other GM vehicles. The jewel red is just as pretty as I imagined it, pretty close to my old Magnetic Red C5. The Aqua Blue was on the Colorado, and I'll admit it was much nicer than what I had seen on the internet, and the photoshop on GM's website does the color NO justice. It's actually not bad at all. It's not as deep as some, but it has a nice appearance, and just a bit of shift from blue to green, not nearly as much as the Corvettes Jetstream Blue. If it wasn't for a couple of other colors that I just like more, I would have no problem w/ the Aqua Blue on my car.

That's about it, we had a great time. Special thanks to SS for "inviting" us, and answering our questions!

Haha , we have similar tastes . Ive comented on this car so much I'll refrain by saying ....I think the blue-greenish backlighting and red clash horribly as well . Nice unoffensive and cool looking white led's with red dials would look better 100 fold x infinity . I to this day do not understand chevys fascination with 80's microwave oven digital display blue-green for backlighting and displays ...come on guys let die already , its tacky

Im happy about the wheel paint too , its makes a huge difference in overall appearance when it doesnt look like you went down to the parts store and bought the sparkliest ( its not a word , but it sure is appropriate ) silver spray bomb and sprayed your wheels . Hopefully they eventually offer a competition grey color like the vettes or even close to my Cobalt SS/SC wheels , which basically look like stainless steel ...both finishes are quite cool and would set off all the offered Camaro colors nicely .

Great to hear ya had a blast

Last night was awesome. I brought my dad so he could finally see why I spend so much time on this site, and what all of my excitement was about. It was pretty cool to walk through the car exhibit hall and have it pretty much to yourself. As we stood there admiring the ZR1, behind the ropes of course, Scott walked up and took the ropes back and let us all over the car. I really thought that was pretty cool. After drooling over the ZR1 and taking pictures we made our way back outside to wait for the Camaro unveiling. They brought the Traverse out first, and it was behind the ropes, so I knew there was no way we were getting close to the Camaro. So of course everyone was there to see the Camaro, when they brought it out escorted by a Dallas PD camaro that really set it off. After the cop camaro pulled through we turned back around to see Scott pulling up in a black RS. It was my first time to see the car in person and what everybody says is true. I thought it was amazing online and on tv but it looks soo much better in person. It really is an amazing car. It too was behind ropes and Scott didnt want to disappoint. So he proceded to take down the ropes, turn the lights on, pop the hood, and roll down the windows so we could get a good look at the interior. It was a great experience and I cant wait to put my order in, since this will be my first car to ever buy. Now my dad wont stop talking about it lol . Thanks Scott for the invite and letting this happen, I still have the smile on my face. Also a big congrats for the whole camaro team for doing such a great job on this car.

CLEAN,

I've noticed that about GM's wheel paint this year also.
I have a set of Ronal R41s that I bought in 2005. The color is
sterling silver. I don't know if Ronal's sterling silver formulation is the same as GM's sterling silver formulation, but they looked polished in the sun.
Ronal would never give me the formulation or tell me which paint chip would match.
Ronal has gone out of business in the USA but is a OE supplier to Audi, etc.
I don't know how to post pics here.
