Fuel economy announcement!!!

Tremendous numbers!!!

V6 fuel economy -- with 6 sp manual -- 17 City - 29 Hwy
with 6-speed automatic -- 18 city -- 29 Hwy --

6.2 Liter with 6 sp manual trans -- 16 city -- 24 hwy
6.2 Liter with 6 sp auto trans -- 16 City -- 25 Hwy.

Keep in mind that the EPA rating system changed after the 4th gen went out of production -- so these numbers, while official - are 'conservative'...

The V6 Camaro has better Hwy mpg than:

Audi TT e.w
Audi A5
BMW 3 series
Mustang
Challenger
Charger
Nissan 350Z
Hyundai Genesis 3.8
Mazda RX8
Scion TC
Miata
Impreza WRX STi
Eclipse.

The Camaro SS with V8 and Auto Trans STILL has better
Hwy mileage than:

Audi TT 3.2
Audi S5
BMW M3
Mustang V6
Challenger/Charger SRT8
Mazda RX8
Eclipse GT.

25mpgs for the A6 V8 will be a welcome sight after our Impala! We're lucky to get 23....ever.

So let me get this straight...

The A6 is quicker to 60 mph while getting better gas mileage and is offered with paddle shifters? Nobody wake me up if this is a dream.

I'm so buying an V8 A6!

Not bad! The auto SS's highway number is only 1mpg less than that of a 2002 M6. Considering the added weight and power, that's a pretty small price to pay!

Just to clarify... they're buttons on the back of the steering wheel. They are not paddle-like at all.

Don't know if that makes a difference to you...

I see that a 0-60 time of 4.7 seconds has been published for the SS (both transmissions). Now, how about 1/4 mile and Nurburgring times?

Scott, congrats to all of the engineers at Chevy and GM. Great job of getting the most out of a great car!

Keep in mind that the 2002 number was based on a different number -- the test is more agressive now -- so..........thinking about it........I think you're gonna LOVE the fuel economy on this car -- esp. after it breaks in!

They have updated numbers (using the new-in-2008 testing procedure) for older cars, including the '02s. The window sticker that came with my '02 Z28 says 19/28, but the updated numbers are 17/26.

Look it up here (direct link doesn't appear to be possible):

Here http://www.chevrolet.com/allnewcamaro/#camaro=home it says the manual (V8) car is 12.9 seconds @ 111mph and the automatic (V8) car is 13.2 seconds @ 105mph.

Indeed it does say that. That is a huge difference!

Wow, those are fantastic numbers. Automatics do better than manuals

I hope GM really advertises aggressively that the V6 puts out 300HP and gets better mileage than mid size favorites Accord and Camry V6. I think it is important to break the "muscle car = gas guzzler" mindset that a lot of the public has.

For Comparison.

2002 Camaro V6 (with only 200HP) has an EPA rating of 17/28 auto 17/19 manual

2002 SS with an automatic and 100 less HP than the LS3 is now rated at 16/23, and we all know real world numbers are even better.

Assuming that Canadian standards use the same city/highway testing procedures, that works out to:

V6 A6: 13.1/8.1
V6 M6: 13.8/8.1
V8 A6: 14.7/9.4
V8 M6: 14.7/9.8

So in other words, the SS should be able to get 30 MPG (real world #'s) on the highway with cruise control, maybe even higher! That is awesome for a car with that kind of power!
