Question Does anybody know how much money GM is going to let GM credit card holders redeem...

On the new Camaro?

I am curious because as of right now, I have ~$2000 in GM credit card earnings that I can put towards a new GM car. However, if GM only lets us redeem $2000, I would rather start using my other credit card that gets me some cash back. I haven't seen it listed in any of the pricing sheets or information so far. Does anybody have an idea? I am thinking they will probably only let us redeem $1000 or so .

Thanks

I have a whole $400 saved up on mine... But I was under the assumption unless they have a "deal" going its usually $1000 max on a new car? I've seen people say they got to use up to $3000 but that was part of a promotion.

I was planning to stop using the card once I got to $1000 because of this little stipulation.

I have $400 on mine too. I'd assume $1000 or less.

I have over 2000 on mine. I dont even know if I could use what Ive already earned much less if there is benefit from earning more. Ive considered getting a different card for this very reason. The biggest thing holding me back from doing that was the amount of time Ive had the card with my credit history.

I called the GM card people a few months ago, depends on what type of card you have,
mine is one of the original and they confirmed that the entire ballance could be applied.
Dealers don't usually know, so call the card and find out. Mine is over $3600.00, 2SS/RS
ordered.

Yeah, my folks also have the original card where you can only earn about $500 a year, but you can apply as much as you want to the car. I have the card where there is no limit to what can be earned, but they cap what you can redeem. I wish I had the old card .

I got a GM card as soon as I saw the concept, so mine's falls under the new rules. The way I understand it, you accrue cash-back in 2 ways. First, if you use your points for a new GM vehicle, your rate is 3% back from what you spent. If you want cash back for a different manufacturer, the rate is 1%. But for new card holders there is a cap on all vehicles and the Camaro will most likely be at $1000. So to spend any points after the first $1000 off, you'd have to go by the 1% accruement rate.

I think its pretty short sighted of the card company. What's the point of continuing using the card after you reach $1000. I plan on quit using pretty soon just because of that. I wonder if the card company would switch me to the original plan if I stop using it?

You must have an even newer card than me! I get 5% on any purchase I make. However, I am still bound by the maximum allowed redeemable cash per car as decided by GM.

I just logged into my GM earnings summary where it lists the allowable limit per vehicle by vehicle name. The Camaro is not listed yet. However, all of the limits are between $1000-$1500 so I am expecting the Camaro to be at $1000. Better than nothing I guess.

well i think that whatever you accumulate you would be able to get off. i think i have 1200 off now. ill see if i can look on my next bill and find out. or maybe call the hotline and see what they say. i dont think there would be a restriction on how much you are allowed to use. id stop using it now if its only 1,000 dollars. the only reason i got the card was because of the camaro. im not buying any more cars any time soon(new) after this.

I have been going back and forth with my dealer on this since I ordered. We have had the GM card since about 97 and have around $3500 accumulated. Originally the dealer said all I could get off was $1000 but they have been calling detroit and haven't been getting back anything useful. GM said they won't know exactley how much I can get off till the car is in and the paper work is on the table.

I just got a GM "extended family" card a few months ago. It gives 1% cash back on all purchases, and up to 5% at specific locations. Earnings are unlimited, and if you want you can withdraw the earnings as cash in $50 intervals. So I can rack up as much as I want, and if they only allow me to apply $1000, I'll just cash it out...
