Camaro orders possibly starting on July 4

I'm posting this since Mike Jackson [GM CEO of Marketing North America] has resigned from his position. Back in April, Mr. Jackson spoke at my college about advertising and marketing for GM vehicles. He did not mention the new Camaro except for when I asked him directly. I wanted to know what plans GM had to market the new Camaro since they failed to market the 4thgen's. He said along with the Transformers movie, that Chevrolet will start taking orders on July 4 on the Chevrolet website to coincide with the movie debut.

Now, I am not 100% positive if this is the truth or not, but those were the words from Mr. Jackson directly.

Exclamation

Uh...... to put it politely........ummmm..... no.

Putting in orders for a car that doesn't even have work on it's assembly line started (let alone any finalized car) is a little bit into fantasy land.

I'm willing to bet there's a substantial misunderstanding involved here somewhere.

Absolutely not true. GM is in no position to take orders, as they are still working on content/packaging.

You would think they would want to do something to take advantage of the hype around transformers though.

I'm sure some dealers would be happy to take your money as a deposit though.

Perhaps was he joking?? Or maybe meant it in the context of "we'd LIKE to start taking orders on July 4th"???

..... or it's just simply more bad/wrong info .

IMO, any tangible info will be available here first (or damn soon after it's first announced) ... unless it comes from Wagoner, Lutz, or Settlemire, I call !!

Mr. Jackson is no longer with the company.

Mr. Jackson's background is in the beverage industry.

Don't get me going.....................

Scott, do you have any feelings about the use of the Camaro in the TF movie? For some reason I get the feeling you are put off by the whole thing.

I don't think it is a bad thing for the Camaro to be a main character on a movie at all... specially when it happens to be the good guy and kick a Saleen's ***. There is a lot of people just dying to see the movie, and the fact that the Camaro is in it makes it a lot sweeter. This is a very smart way to maintain interest in the upcoming product. Smart move by GM if you ask me.

I was going to say maybe he meant next July, but even then they woudln't take orders on the website because they essentially have to sell through a dealer.

I hate when people do this: post something they "heard" rather than something they know as fact.
